No Video or Audio is saved after recording.

Hello, I recently did a 1 hr recording yesterday on screenflow and it pained me to find out after the recording that nothing was saved/there. When I saved the file it said 0 duration. There was no audio or video. Pretty much a file that was created to be blank. https://puu.sh/rNcUP/f7289559df.png <- there is an example of what happens (I attempted to record for 26 seconds to recreate this screenshot) I am at a lost at what is the cause of this. I have been using screenflow for close to a year now. Have loved the product and don't wanna use a software like obs to record and just screenflow to edit. Want the whole package [: Hopefully someone can help and hopefully I explained it well.

    I have the exact same problem here Rriiver Nyile after paying an extra $34.00 for the required upgrade!

    I'm working on the final pieces of a video edit & have been using Screenflow for years. 

    Now I can't complete my edit and all round feel mugged off :(

    Sorry this has happened and I'd love to help but I need a lot of technical information. Please read READ BEFORE POSTING at the top of this product section and include the complete details. What you were recording and where you were recording it can be factors.

    I was just recording a game on the computer like I normally do just basic gameplay. It also effects me when doing any recording regardless of the programs I have open or I have any. Let me know if you need anything else.

    Rriiver Nyile  Current version of ScreenFlow is 6.1. Updates include but fixes and enhancements. So please update and test again.

    Also what were you recording?
    While I see your scratch disk is the desktop it's no clear where you were saving to since you mention when you saved it, there was no recording.
    Also not clear what did you see after recording but before saving.
    Your original screenshot shows your timeline but it does not show your media library. There can be recordings there that aren't in the timeline.

  • Yea, that isnt the case though. When I am done recording there is nothing saved just a blank screen and most of my files are saved to my desktop. I was doing fine until like 2 days ago. Was completely random. I updated hoping it be better. Sadly nothing has changed.

    What game?
    Try just recording the desktop itself with nothing else running.
    This just in case the issue is related to the game and its use of the GPU/OS relationship which ScreenFlow also depends on.

  • Online game called pokemon showdown, pretty much a game running on your browser.

     

    Tried doing your suggestion and I am still getting same results. I am starting to think im missing a file or something. It's clear something from screenflow is triggering it at least from my view.

  • I too am recording and then there are no clips in the media library when the file opens - this has never happened before and I have not upgraded, I am still using 5.0.6 that I have always used - this is terrible timing as i have an interview to post for mindfulness4mothers.com - please help asap. I have submitted a support ticket but it suggested I come here for help too

    Kellie Edwards are you on Sierra macOS 10.12. ScreenFlow 5.0.6 is not compatible. You'd have to update to 5.0.7 on left side of page.

    Rriiver Nyile let's see if the issue is part of your system config or just your user account.

    Create a New User Admin Account. Remove all third party hardware and their drivers. Reboot and log into the New Account, open ScreenFlow and try to capture just the desktop and tell me what happens.

    Rriiver Nyile That would mean there's a problem with your system.
    Uninstall ScreenFlow.
    Download EasyFind from the Mac App Store (it's free). Search and delete any other files with the ScreenFlow name in it. Reboot the computer.

    Using Apple's built in Quicktime Player File > New Screen Recording
    and tell me if you can record your desktop.

    I recorded fine with quicktime player and even recorded with obs fine.

    Rriiver Nyile  It would seem you have a system based issue creating a problem specific to ScreenFlow. I don't see any other reports like this so my guess it's either an OS issue or you have some conflicting third party program installed at this point.

    First lets work on OS issues. Boot the Mac in Safe Mode, Once it's done, restart back to normal.
     

    Starting up in safe mode

    Follow these steps to start up into safe mode.

    1. Start or restart your Mac. 
    2. Immediately after you hear the startup sound, press and hold the Shift key.
    3. Release the Shift key when you see the Apple logo appear on the screen.

    After the Apple logo appears, it might take longer than usual to reach the login screen or your desktop. This is because your Mac performs a directory check of your startup disk as part of safe mode.

    To leave safe mode, restart your computer without pressing any keys during startup.

     

    Keep in mind, if you've followed my previous instructions, you DO NOT have ScreenFlow installed. The next step would be to install ScreenFlow. Once you've stalled ScreenFlow, reboot and with only ScreenFlow running, try to record the desktop.

    What I keep getting when trying to record on safe mode. Nothing was resolved sadly. Anyway, let's see what you can offer me now. Hopefully we figure out a solution.

    At no point should you attempt to record in Safe Mode. It is simply for repair.

    Please follow my instructions exactly and start over.

    Since I have no other reports of an issue like this, the issue is likely something about your system, something you have running, something conflicting.

    I've got exactly the same problem. I'm running on Version 5.0.5 (I don't see where I could update this?), iOS macOS Sierra 10.12.1

    I record and there is nothing. Please help as I use your screenflow regularly to make instructions videos for customers. Thanks and regards Nadine

    Thank you. I followed the link and downloaded the latest copy, however, in order to use it, I need to pay 34 Dollars. To buy the new update, I need to give my serial number, but I can't find that anywhere. I had registered screenflow in August 2015, but have no idea where to look for that number. Please help, thank you.

    Nadine Hudson the update from ScreenFlow 5.0.5 to 5.0.7 is free. Perhaps you downloaded 6.2. That would be a paid upgrade.

    ScreenFlow serial number is found in ScreenFlow > Preferences and the Licenses tab.

    I did that (twice now) but when I want to save the film it tells me that it will add a watermark unless I buy the update. So it seems that I have to pay for an update after all, which is a bit annoying. Also, if I click on the license tab, there is no serial number. Without that I can't even get the special price for the update. Please help, thanks.

    Nadine Hudson In ScreenFlow 5.0.5 do you have a license?

    If you bought from the Mac App Store there would be no license and you'd have to buy version 6 at full price from the App Store. Otherwise you can move from the App Store to the version we sell.
