macOS Sierra 10.12 kills Screenflow 5. What about 6?

Although I realize that macOS Sierra 10.12 is beta software, and so I am not complaining, some of us need to use it.

Anyhow, the 10.12 Beta 3 appears to have killed Screenflow 5 for me.  Recording appears to start, proceed and complete OK.  But when the new .screenflow document appears, it has zero length and no media clips.

Has anyone else had this result?  Is anyone using 10.12 and Screenflow 6 yet?

We're developing 6 compatibility for Sierra. I can't speak to 5 as of yet.
We have a team testing 6 with Sierra.

  • Thank you, Craig.  I understand that the Telestream team is rightfully focused on the latest versions.  In the meantime, I'm hoping that users can share and thus confirm our experiences.

  • Just to confirm, I am using Screenflow 6 with 10.12 and the experience is the same. Everything appears to be working, but when you stop recording, no clips are visible, with no timeline.

As noted previously we are working on Sierra compatibility keeping in mind that it's a moving target for the time being as it undergoes changes and updates.

  • Do you have a beta version of 6 with a fix that we can test for you?

Same issue here.  Seems to record, but nothing in the timeline after.

There will be a compatibility fix although I can't speak to release date.

  • Hi, I am still using v4 (works for me) and am testing Sierra as a developer myself.

I have some captures still inside v4, where would I find them?
I can see them on the recently used files list but their icons are white.

How can I update without losing my captures?

This depends on whether by "capture" you mean just the recorded file or the entire document.

Right click on the ScreenFlow document (this assumes you've saved) and Open Package and inside you'll find a Media folder and in that are .scc files which are ScreenFlow media files.

If you want to attempt to use the entire document in a newer version of  ScreenFlow I'd recommend copying the document first and only attempting to open the copy so the original doesn't become corrupt.

  • I just hit this issue myself as I am on macOS Sierra. I can wait and use SnapZ Pro for the work until ScreenFlow is ready. Ah the beta software blues. ;-)

Perry Lund especially with operating systems, personally I'd partition a drive or not use it on a primary "work" computer. We do have people working on and testing compatibility and a fix is coming.

  • Thanks for your hard work, Screenflow team!! Will you post here when the fix is ready so we know to switch back?  I'm using the 30-day free trial of Camtasia in the mean time but like Screenflow much better, so I'd love to switch back when you guys are ready. Thanks!

  • With due respect to the tricky process of supporting a public beta operating system, here’s hoping for a compatible version sooner rather than later!

We are working as quickly as possible but things may change in the beta OS itself.

  • Hello,

Screenflow 6.1 was just released and confirmed it fixed the issue and screen capture works again.  I am running macOS Sierra PB 6. Go and update your screenflow.

  • Does Telestream intend on supporting Sierra (final release version later this year) for Screenflow 5 via an update if needed?

I can't say specifically regarding 5 on Sierra but please do make a direct inquiry and report back if you're free to do so.

  • What I'm really saying is that I'll be very disappointed indeed if Screenflow requires a paid update every single year. Let's just say telestream would not be the only company o take advantage of Apples yearly free is updates if that was the case and once everything stacks up it can be very expensive and leave a bad taste in the mouth.

Thanks for the confirmation. Keep in mind that Sierra is Apple's work in progress so beta OS updates may change things.
