  • Dusty, I was able to recover some of my earlier work using the "Time Machine" for my Mac. But I had to rebuild about half of one video.

I then moved all of my screenflow videos off Dropbox onto another area of my hard drive and now back them each evening with Time Machine.

It does not allow you to share the file for collaboration unless you are willing to pull the files off Dropbox regularly and back them up somewhere else on your hard drive.

    Good luck!

  • I have back up of everything. The point is the package is not saving the recordings. I save the file and the package looses them. And the scratch disc is temporary. so its not there when I go back for it. I even have back ups of scatch dis. how many time has this happend to you?? i am not collaborating with anyone this is just me trying to hold onto my files. I need my packages to stay complete. any ideas why screenflow drops files from packages - there was no crash. no anything. I just closed the file and when I opened again recordings were missing. yrs dusty

  • yesterday when this started happening, I made triplicates of everything, and I have a back up system that saves deleted files. so I was able to track down a "deleted" copy of screenflow FILE through Easy Find - that had the scc files inside its media pacakage. and I copied them all back into the original package file. and after much ado - it worked!!! got everything back. but ultimately -- screenflow itself somehow - deleted the recordings - from its own package - that previously were there. or something. and everytime I reopen files practically screenflow goes into recover - but then again with all the lost files from really its been two files so far, I had to crash screenflow. what gives?

I have to say, other than the saving issues - the video recordings are turning out fine. for my purposes otherwise its working just fine.

I am have now change settings on my screenflow backups so that all deletions added and nothing gets "replaced."

well at least was able to figure out the whole package thing.

  • Hi Craig, thank u for getting back to me. I saved the file continuously - As I created new recordings. Later close the file. When I go back to open, it goes into "recovery" and then twice now - couldnt find half the files.

It had "deleted" them  - I found the files in a previously saved version that had been "deleted." I have a back up  that writes over files that are updated and saves deleted files. I found them under deleted. Although I will say I find things in deleted folder that I never deleted.  Not just Screenflow.

What is the saving process. I want to set myself up carefully, for best practices with screenflow, as I will be using this program going forward because of its very straightforward approach and have a lot of pro vids must produce. And this has happened now - several times.

What am I doing wrong. I record. I save. Thats it. Again and again it opens to "recovery." About 50% of the time.

So far as I understand it - It scratches new recordings - then when you hit the save button, it saves them inside the package file. Am I saving too often. I save after every recording. I record, I add actions, I cut, I edit. The whole deal.

if Telestream could change the naming procedure so the packaged files were named after the renamed recordings - that wd be sensational.

  • forgot to add:  original files and scratch files and for that matter backup, are on a variety of external discs.  I have original on a 500 Toshiba disc. I have the scratch on a 500 ssd. And I have the backup on a 4tb. I have latest imac 5k with 512 ssd, High Sierra, 24 ram.

  • sooooo - can I control package file. can I drop my "media" files into package file, too - I dont want to close down a file to check that will mean I'd lose it if it is not saved. hmmm. I set auto save at 30 minutes to a back up. I'll check that. If its in the just saved back up. then it has to have been saved on original. shd work.

  • dusty hope Frequent saving is the right thing to do. It should copy scratch files to the saved location of the document when you do that.

I may need to know the specifics of your external drives.
Are scratch and saved document location on the same external SSD?
Is the SSD USB3 or Thunderbolt? Avoid USB2.
How much free space do you have on each including your system drive? Generally no drive should be 80% full or greater after capture or it's possible there may be issues.

  • CraigS hi. nothing is on the same disc. or on imac disc. 7 year old toshiba hard drive usb2, pulled from a laptop is holding original files. Hardly anything else on it. Crucial SSD drive brand new, has scratch files, is thunderbolt - USB-C, nothing else on it.

  • dusty hope USB2 can be a problem in some cases if you're using that as a scratch disk. It's also not great for sustained access.

As a test eliminate the USB2 drive even if you have to use the system drive as one of the drives. Even if you don't want to work that way normally it'll let us know if the USB2 drive is a factor.
