Pre Start Failed

I am running Episode 6.4.6 and when I try to encode anything today I am getting an error message that says Pre Start Failed. When I click on that I get "[Computer name] failed to create resource directory for job."  What's up?

Please make sure you're running from an Admin account.

    Delete the following files:

Then Reboot the computer and start Episode again.

    On Mac
    User/Library/Application Support/Episode/Assistant.plist
    User/Library/Application Support/Episode/Assistant.xml
    User/Library/Application Support/Episode/IOServer.plist
    User/Library/Application Support/Episode/IOServer.xml
    User/Library/Application Support/Episode/Node.plist
    User/Library/Application Support/Episode/Node.xml

    On Windows
    You can try deleting:

    C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Telestream\Episode 6
    C:\ProgramData\Telestream\Episode 6

  • We are running Windows 7. The only file that I could find from your list was C:\Windows\Temp\Episode, and I couldn't delete it because the computer said it was in use. It shouldn't have been: Episode was not running.

  • It sounds like there's an issue with your install. Delete Episode, reboot and reinstall.
Please install in an Admin account.
    Please disable all virus checking.

You mention this happened "today" which implies it previously was working. That does sound odd that you can find most of the files I referenced. At the very least, rebooting should free up the one file you found.

It certainly sounds like all your resources are missing.
