Black Screen when Filter are used(10.0.4 on MacOS 12.2, M1 Max)

Hi all.

Since updating to macOS 12.2 and ScreenFlow 10.0.4, all of my video filters produce nothing but solid black. At first, I thought it was just when viewing the timeline, but then I noticed that it was nearly every filter's preview in the selection window.

Has anyone experienced this before, and do you have suggestions to fix it?

What is your System Theme set to?
What is ScreenFlow's Theme set to, System, Dark, Light)?

CraigS Both set to Auto. Could that make a difference? It's always been set to that.

I just tried the different combinations of Auto/Light/Dark for both the System and Screenflow and no change.

M Grant What Mac model? Wondering if the GPU is a factor.
Try using this tool and resetting ScreenFlow. Then reboot the computer and test.

CraigS MacBook Pro 14": 10 core M1 Max, 32 core GPU, 64gb Memory

Thanks for that tool. I'll give it a go and report back.

M Grant There was an issue with black filters reported a while back which had since been fixed. The issue was around themes. I'm thinking that an issue with ScreenFlow's settings might have caused it to arise in your case. Do report back.

CraigS Here we go. I got the diagnostics before doing the reset, too. Just in case. Post-reset the problem persists.

I took some screenshots to show how the video filter is applying to the Video action (should add the same problem persists even if the filter is applied directly to the video track).

      - You'll notice that at the beginning of the action, it doesn't even register a filter exists.

      - Throughout the action it shows the filter is applied but with no properties

      - At the end of the Action the filter shows the desired target value

      - It's black throughout

M Grant Thanks for that. Started investigation FLOW-11437

Would you be able to make a recording of playing the timeline starting at the transition and playing through part of the clip?

CraigS Thanks. Should also add that this relates to support ticket Case #00877039

In recording this, Screenflow crashed twice (which is new for me and this particular issue)

I ran into the same issue with some—not all—transitions, using a 14" MacBook Pro M1 Max, with the latest releases of MacOS and ScreenFlow. After a few days of back-and-forth with support, completely uninstalling and resetting ScreenFlow (twice), plus uploading a video recording of the issue, they finally replied on January 20th:

“I have good news! The issue you are reporting is a known issue in ScreenFlow. Our engineering team was able to determine this issue was found late late last year. Our engineers are aware and are currently working to fix this. The fix will be available in a future release, but we have no time frame for this update.”

    Still waiting for a fix!

Shawn Hesketh Thanks for posting the response from support. Do you have a case number?

Shawn Hesketh Thanks. The case number ties it to our investigation FLOW-11348. This will help me track the progress more closely.

Are you also see black video filters when you call them up.

Have you reported the crashes to support? That would be a separate issue. You should supply them the ScreenFlow Diagnostics. Shift Help Menu > Gather Support Diagnostics and either send them in creating a new ticket or save them locally and email in with an already created ticket on the issue (might be the better way to go).

Also, add the Diagnostics report here as you did previously.

I'm having the exact same issue on my M1 Max; I've been going back and forth with Screenflow for weeks and no solution yet... and funny thing is they said I was the only one reporting this issue, not true at all it seems.

Do you have a case number? Perhaps I can check if it's the same issue.

CraigS It's 100% the same issue no question about it... but the case number is 00832267, keep in mind that that case didn't start with this particular issue; this issue sprang up mid-another issue I had.

I've found a new presentation of what could be the same underlying issue with Filters. In this example, applying a 'Hue Adjust' filter makes the image disappear altogether. Pictured here toggled off/on

CraigS What do you need to know? It's a PNG file with transparent background. What else?
