Black Screen when Filter are used(10.0.4 on MacOS 12.2, M1 Max)

Hi all.

Since updating to macOS 12.2 and ScreenFlow 10.0.4, all of my video filters produce nothing but solid black. At first, I thought it was just when viewing the timeline, but then I noticed that it was nearly every filter's preview in the selection window.

Has anyone experienced this before, and do you have suggestions to fix it?

I've found a new presentation of what could be the same underlying issue with Filters. In this example, applying a 'Hue Adjust' filter makes the image disappear altogether. Pictured here toggled off/on

CraigS Oh, actually - maybe this would help. Here's the actual image itself.

      ScreenFlow 10.0.4
      Monterey 12.2.1
      13" M1 MBP
      Hue Adjust Filter

So the issue may be specific to M1Pro/Max chips.

CraigS Seems to be the case. Is your machine Intel or first gen M1?

Received a response to the support ticket today and it said

We have discovered a connection to the m1 Max chip specifically and have filed a Radar Bug with Apple (FB9899419 - Open GL on M1 Max not rendering), and based on some feedback our dev team got on that bug, it will be fixed in a macOS update.

However, I should note that we were able to confirm the black screen issue on a first gen M1 also, which was running macOS 12.3 Beta CraigS

M Grant Developers would like to know if you're seeing the Preview image in the Filter Pane.

CraigS  Funnily enough, the only filter that shows a preview is Chroma Key

That would mean Apple's issue until 12.3 is released. We generally can't fix targeting betas because the beta is a moving target.

Hmm, so perhaps it is related to the issue in the original post.

CraigS Yeah I could only see Chroma Key as well— I ended up downgrading to 12.1 to use filters again.

Dobbs macOS 12.1? That gives us an idea of where the break occurred. Thanks for noting that.

Dobbs Did you need to do a clean install of the whole system and set up your user again? Or can this process retain all your user-profiles and app settings?

CraigS Dobbs Simo Ahava Shawn Hesketh As far as I can tell, it looks like this issue has been resolved with Screenflow 10.0.5 and macOS 12.3 public release.

M Grant Oh for real? That's good news! Is the timeline still laggy? Or is that fixed too?

Dobbs Not sure yet. I'll let you know once I get stuck into this current video. Only had time to test the graphic glitch, so far

M Grant Yes, yes, yes! Thank you (also CraigS )!

It didn't work with the OS X and Screenflow updates directly, but I did a complete purge of Screenflow files, restarted my computer, reinstalled 10.0.5 and finally the transitions work! Thank you so much!

      M Grant Thanks for confirming.

Simo Ahava Yes that can help if as the issue can "carry over" in some files.

M Grant I can also confirm that the related issue I reported with regard to transitions appears to be (mostly) resolved. While the transitions are working as expected once again, the icons representing each transition are still incorrect. But I can deal with that minor bug as long as the functionality is there!

        Dobbs

      • Timeline still laggy
      • Implementation of filters still isn't how it used to be: you need to apply the same filter to both ends of a video action
      • And now I can't seem to remove assets from the media library

M Grant Perhaps those issues are local to you. There haven't been any changes that would cause them and playback in 10 has improved for most users and even more so in 10.0.5. There's been no change in how filters are used for example, just how they are presented.

  • I also have a new MacBook pro M1 and am experiencing the same issue with Screenflow Filters & Effects for Videos. I find that it is super hard to contact Screenflow support.

I also have only Chroma Filter and everything else is black. I tried to import new filters and they import but are black also. Screenshots attached.

How to contact the support and get a case number on this?
