Export "Output Settings" to file

When creating a new project file I have to recreate all of my output connections. It would be awesome to create these settings and export the config to a file that can be imported when created a new project.  I've looked and was able to find anyone else talking about it, I'm sure I just didn't see it.  I understand that the keys will change but the name, destination, encoder settings and address typically will stay the same.

  • 100% this!

    I was looking to see if it's possible to add custom Destination presets like you can with Encoding Presets when I came across this thread. Take my vote.

  • I know this is a workaround, but.....

    If I have a project file that's packed with unique settings (gfx/lower-thirds on top layer, output connections, etc.) I just perform a "Save As" to create a duplicate project file, then delete/change the items required for new project (maintaining all your output connections), and rename the new project file as needed.

  • The error is actually that Telestream stores this information in the project file (.wcst). Such information should be stored in a global configuration in my opinion.

    The project files (.wcst) are XML files (normal text files). You can also just put everything between the tags

    <advanced_output>
      ......
      ......
    </advanced_output>

    with a text editor from another file. Compared to Michael's solution, you don't have to delete everything you don't need!

    Try it - works fine!

     By "global configuration" do you mean application preferences? I imagine that could become quite cluttered though. Sometimes one may want to use the settings for some documents but not others which is why being able to export the output settings may be interesting to some. This gives the user more control.

      I think it just depends on how you work with wirecast. For example, I always stream to the same 2-3 destinations. I also always record the same SDI cameras and audio from the mixer.

      But what changes are the individual shots (projects). That's why I always copy these things from one file back into a new file.

      You can also make a master with all recording and stream destinations and then duplicate it again and again.

      Jean-Pierre Kousz I think the challenge is how to accommodate users with different workflows. Each may find the other method of saving destinations an inconvenience. One issue with depending on global preferences is that if they become corrupted and must be reset, everything is lost. With documents, it's easier to have a backup document.

      CraigS I absolutely agree with that. I just wanted to show an alternative to Michael's suggestion.
