ScreenFlow app won't open

I'm on the latest version of ScreenFlow and MacOS but the Screenflow app won't open. I just get the spinning beachball.

I've tried clearing the app cache, restarting my computer and re-installing the app but nothing helps.

I'd like to help but I'd need version numbers as users often don't realize they've missed updates.

I'd also recommend creating a New User Admin account and testing in that account.

I tested with a new user account and it worked. But still doesn't work on my account.

I have also tried closing all other apps and menu bar items that are running in the background.

Perhaps the issue is specific to the User Account ScreenFlow Preferences.
    In the problem User Account:
Hold Shift and go to ScreenFlow > Help > Gather Support Diagnostics and use the Reset ScreenFlow.
If the issue is ScreenFlow that would fix it.

  • It started working again. After leaving it a few hours I came back and it was working.

I see in this thread that background maintenance scripts could be causing an issue. Although, I've never had an issue like this with other apps. It seems crazy to me that an app won't open for a few hours because the Mac is performing routine maintenance tasks.

Paul Minors It's not uncommon for background routines to have an impact. Macs run them as a matter of course to fix or prevent issues. If you leave your computer on all the time, they tend to run overnight but if you don't they may run when booting or during the day. Those background routines can certainly fix issues. ScreenFlow is very dependent on the OS and its functions, especially macOS permissions.
