Record Audio To A Separate File

Is there a way to automatically record audio to a separate file?

I THINK it used to do that, but I may be thinking of another app.

  • All the sources that ScreenFlow records will go into the media library of the ScreenFlow document. ScreenFlow will combine certain audio sources with certain video sources. For example, webcam and microphone together or desktop and system audio together. If you want just audio you can isolate it and export it as an audio file.

    • Mathias ScreenFlow does not record video or audio into separate files. However, you can isolate and export video and / or audio from a ScreenFlow document.

In the past, when you finished recording two new separate items appeared in your media library. One for the video and one for the audio, correct?

They might have been both in the same file.
If I look at old youTube tutorials most of them show 2 separate items in the media library, so I think this was true.

    • Mathias See my comment below. It all depends on exactly how you recorded. The answer might be yes, or no.

  • Mathias I've been using Screenflow through several iterations and at no time that I remember did it record separately. Audio is recorded separately if you have a dedicated audio source. For example, when I record a typical screencast I'm capturing the screen on my computer, but I'm also capturing the audio via an independent mic/amplifier. So, in that case, the audio does come into Screenflow as separate files.

As already said, quite easy to separate out after recording if you are capturing both audio and video from the same source. Just right-click on the relevant track and an option will pop up that says something like "detach audio".

One way to look at it:
Screen and Computer Audio recorded together. If you record one of those it's separate of course.
In ScreenFlow 10 when using Computer Audio different apps may each generate a channel and then Extract App audio used.
Webcam and USB Audio recorded together. If you recording only one of those it's separate of course.
Audio can be Extracted as well as Detached if they come combined with video as described above.

ScreenFlow can do audio-only exports as AAC or Lossless.
