Audio Keeps cutting out on Playback

I have done a screen recording one my screen and my voice and after the recording when I playback and start editing the audio keeps dropping out and coming back. And the waveforms don't display the audio correctly. I haven't imported an audio into the project, its just the media that was recording from the recording. Any idea what this could be? I have restarted Screenflow and deleted the wave caches in the User Cache folder. And have also deleted the Screenflow preference file and restarted Screenflow. I'm using Screenflow 8.0

I have also jumped back to a previous project that was working and that is also doing it. So its not just project related but to the whole Screenflow application.

Updates include fixes. The last version in that series was 8.2.6. You should always keep check for updates enabled in preferences. The current version is 9.0.7 though.
It's not clear what macOS you're on so I can't make a specific recommendation. Issues in version 8.0 would have been fixed in updates though. There is no further development on the version 8 series.

  • OK, I did the update to 8.2.6 and still problem is occurring.

I'm on Mac 10.14.6. I stay behind on updates cos usually some of my audio plugins break with updates cos developers haven't updated them to be compatible.

I've been running v8.0 for like a year now with no issues like this. I copied the file across to my MacBook running Screenflow v8.0 and the project file works fine on there. So I'm guessing its something that has gone corrupt with the Screenflow files on my iMac. Are there any other preference or cache files I can delete/remove to see if it helps resolve it?

You may need to test with the trial of 9.0.7. if a fix is needed it will be built on the current version.

We have a utility that can reset ScreenFlow. See forum private message system for link to download and run.

  • I have also downloaded the Screenflow 9.0.7 trial and the audio playback issues is present in there as well. So it seems like a Screenflow global parameter or preference somewhere on my machine and not the version I am using

Gary Hiebner Perhaps it's an audio monitoring issue in the system. Test by changing monitoring to the computer's built-in speakers in System Preferences Sound Output and restarting ScreenFlow.

  • Yes, I have already tried different audio devices. Still have the dropout no matter what device I use, even the built in audio device

Gary Hiebner It sounds system-related since this doesn't sound like any other ScreenFlow reports we've had with ScreenFlow recordings. Imported media certainly may have issues though. There shouldn't be any issues using iMac internal speakers.

X-DD Sorry but we can't offer anything other than what's stated in the thread unless you give us technical details. As noted above this may not be a ScreenFlow issue but rather an issue with your system sound. Note that there have been no posts about this issue in ScreenFlow 10.0.5 until yours.

I'd gladly help if you include technical information so we have the potential to reproduce the issue.
