Mp4 won't play after upgrading to latest version.

Using Windows 10, Mp4's will play in preview but not in live window. True of videos created using Wirecast and elsewhere. Tried a separate user interface created with Wirecast many months ago and it plays fine but not in our more current interface. Looking for a setting.

I'd like to help but I'd need more details. Anything that plays in Preview would Play live  but that depends on your settings and how the shot came to be in Preview.

Each Media File has "state" settings you need to be aware of and in some cases, you should Clear Layer to reset the state.

  • I am aware of this setting. Your comment "clear the layer to reset the state" is unclear. What does it reset to? To not starting when it goes live? Also, be aware that we are talking about our church computer where I am only there once a week so there may be delays in answering.

Also when I said the video plays when in preview I mean it plays only in the preview window but not when it goes to the live window.

    thanks.

Then select the media shot again so it is in Preview.

Because it may be stuck if it was previously live. Clear Layer first.

I'm sorry but I need specifics in order to troubleshoot. You need to provide complete details.

  • Clearing the layer did not work. For some odd reason changing the theme setting worked to allow my .mp4 videos to play.

Please do explain what you mean by "theme setting."

  • I'm not totally sure since it was my son who did it. It may have been coincidental. He is supposed to get back to me on this. I know it could be helpful for other users. The computer we use Wirecast on is at our church which we go to weekly. Sorry for the delay.

Mike Competillo No problem. Good that the MP4 is playing though.

  • Same issue here - on the latest version of Wirecast - the MP4 will play in preview but NOT in the output. Have tried everything from clearing layers to restarting the computer.  I really wish I knew what resetting the theme was above - would like to get this to work the way it use to!

Matt Liistro can you provide an example? Generally, if an MP4 plays in Preview it plays when live unless there's a Media File settings. MP4 files are either compatible and play or they are not and those may not import or play in Preview, let alone live. Please read the entire thread for the proper workflow. If you need help with your workflow you may need to explain it in detail.

  • I have been waiting to come back in and post the solution but my account was restricted from posting.  In the new version of wirecast you will need to hit control P to start playing all media files.  This will allow them to play in the live version as well as the preview.

Matt Liistro Yes that could work.

  • We have been converting everything to .mov which works but makes an extra step. It also lowers CPU usage.

Mike Competillo We should fix the MP4 compatibility issues in an upcoming update but some MOV codecs may certainly make less decode demands on the CPU.

  • I believe my son said he changed the new orange lower layers back to the original colors like the layers above. He said it may just have been coincidental.
