Network API

Hello, it would be a huge help to be able to have some sort of protocol to control Wirecast over the network. Whether it's through TCP, OSC, etc. having network control would allow for easy automation and administration of all of our Wirecast instances throughout our facility.

Basic network support for things like switching shots, transitions, and recording are likely apparent, but it would also be nice to have network feedback that returned the current record status, current live shot, list of shots in the project, etc.

I think the options available in the Streamdeck plugin are a good starting point, and would love to see this implemented for developers to take advantage of.

Wirecast can be run and controlled through scripting. Would that help?

  • CraigS Not quite. Scripting is helpful on a local machine, but not for controlling a large number of instances over a network. This is important across a large complex, or when working remotely.

Here are some examples of network implementations in other production software. I think they are all good examples of how some industry standard types of functionality are implemented:

    HTTP (vMix)

    OSC  (Mitti)

Bryce Seifert Thanks for the examples and further explanation. Fill out the Feature Request Form as well. We'll send you a case number and that will allow for direct communication if the developers have questions or thoughts on this.

CraigS Hmm. I could have sworn that I replied to this. Was a post deleted for any reason?

For your reference, this is already tracked by the Telestream team under WIRE-7388 - Its been requested a few years ago, and there has been no feedback if or when this will be delivered.

  • They are maybe waiting until the support fee pays for that feature. The examples above are so true. Just take a look at the options you have. Some competitors are free or have a long trial phase so you can test without risk.
