Quicktime no longer recognizes .wmv files

I've used Flip4Mac previously to convert .wmv files to quicktime files with no problems.  Now none of my .wmv files, including ones I've previously converted, are recognized by quicktime.  They still play in the flip player, but I can no longer play them in Quicktime or use Adobe Media Encoder or Apple Compressor to convert the files to other formats.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Flip4Mac but it didn't do any good.

Flip4Mac Pro 3.3.7.3

Quicktime 10.4

Mac OS 10.10.4

Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

  • Please make sure you've actually converted them to .mov and not just wrapped them in wmv. When you open the WMV in FlipPlayer you must Export and not Save As (which will wrap to .mov).

You may need to open in a player that can inspect the codec. Please download the free version of Switch and look at the file in its inspector.
