Audio Interfaces Tested For Screenflow 6

As Craig and the team have said that it's impossible to test audio interfaces and qualify them then I thought I'd start a list of those tested with results. Please add any that you test and say if they work or don't, or do with some issues.

jake antelis please do report it then, keeping in mind that we currently aren't testing individual interfaces (hence the importance of this thread).

  • Just an update , I've done all above mentioned suggestions. And fiddled with it as much as possible. Still no luck with the computer audio side of things with the clarett 8 pre X

Ken Flux Pierce remove the clarett 8 pre x and all it's drivers and software and reboot the computer. If computer audio then works, at least we can confirm the cause.

  • I have done that already. It will work as long as I don't use the clarett 8 pre X ... Uninstalling the drivers made no difference.

Ken Flux Pierce so it would seem Focusrite Clarett 8Pre is conflicting with Apple's computer audio unfortunately. Go to System Preferences Sound and make sure it's not set to be used for monitoring (output). Make sure monitoring is going out through computer headphone/line out jack. See if that helps computer audio.

  • so I can get computer audio through the claret and recorded into a track. but it records it onto the same track as the webcam (not the screen capture) no audio is captured on the "computer audio" track that should be embedded into the screen capture track. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers etc. nothing helps. on top of this, it presents a problem for the type of videos I do (often demos of audio hardware both hard and software).
previously I would record the webcam's internal mic as well as my "computer audio" which was actually the audio passing through my Komplete audio 6. this helped with syncing things up in post as I also import video from my GH3. (I could use a reference shot of me tapping on a table to sync) now the webcam audio channel is taken over by my audio interface (claret).. I've tried to see if it had something to do with the fact that the Clarett has loop back recording and maybe that was conflicting... but still haven't seemed to be able to fix it. I am gonna go ahead and authorize your whole team to all get Clarett interfaces so you can test this on your own set ups... (I'm sure your bosses will pay for it... just smile and say please ;) ) thanks

BTW have you contacted Focusrite? It seems odd that their device would interfere with Apple's System Sound. That may be something they need to fix. While there are devices that use DAWs that don't use System Sound and, therefore, need to be used as an external device for recording, they shouldn't interfere with Computer Audio.

  • I have contacted them as I did notice some other very strange things (Random Facebook videos not playing out of output 1 and 2 but instead out of outs 3,4).  The thing that gets me is, I used to just select computer audio and that would give me the sound of my DAW (its the same for all DAWS I use so I know that isn't the issue). While I would use the built in mic of my web cam as my sync track. Now I can no longer do this as I have to set the Thunderbolt Clarett up on the track that was previously my "Computer audio" this is making syncing videos much harder now.

Ken Flux Pierce  If you think the change is in ScreenFlow then you could try going back to the previous version and see if it behaves differently.

  • I'm experiencing difficulties with the Akai EIE Pro! If I set the output audio to the EIE the whole computer will crash after the 5 second countdown! As soon as I set the audio out back to the inbuilt Mac speakers I can use Screenflow no problem! Anyone else out there experiencing similar difficulties ??

George Easterbrook generally ScreenFlow should use the computer headphone/speaker output. Issues happen using USB headsets as well.

  • CraigS Ah, cool. Thanks for clearing that up! Will there be any updates in the future to solve the issue or will u just have to put up with it? I make audio DAW tutorials you see and everything would be much easier being able to use the interface for working within logic, monitoring and recording into Screenflow !

George Easterbrook Key is whether input is working. You can request support for alternative monitoring but that does add to the complexity given how the OS and ScreenFlow work.

  • Computer audio with RME has always been impossible for me - with the Fireface 400 for example. To do with the interface using RME drivers. However with the RME BabyFace Pro there is a fix: put the unit into Class Compliant mode and you get your computer audio recorded fine in Screenflow. You lose TotalMix control in that mode but that's fine for recording in Screenflow.  Another fix is to to use the loopback facility on the RME but not tried that.

  • Mac 10.11, Screenflow 6.0, Apogee Duet all working fine (using computer output device set to apogee and screenflow set to record from Duet as well as computer audio I get internal audio as well as external incoming audio all synced and locked correctly)

Emma Louise Thanks for that. I wonder if current version ScreenFlow 6.1 behaves as well.

  • CraigS  - thanks, and yes, it is actually version 6.1 not 6.0 - and all working.

  • Mattias Karlsson Sjöberg  CraigS  Any word if the Scarlett 6i6 works with ScreenFlow - namely, can you record 4 channels at once? I have an application coming up next month where I need to record at least 3 external audio channels at once. I currently have not been able to talk ScreenFlow into recording both from my Scarlett 2i4's 2 input channels _and_ the Mac's built-in audio input at the same time; I have to choose one. (I realize I might need to escalate to a different dedicated audio recording application; it's just that something like ProTools or Live seem to be overkill...)

  • Chris Meyer Sorry, yet to try it. It just sits around still packed. It was supposed to be my backup-card whenever the main one disagrees with any of our guest computers. But I might be able to try it soon. Maybe next week.

Chris Meyer I wish there were new news on this front. Perhaps if there were a broader base of testers in this area. Thinking cap on.

  • Mattias Karlsson Sjöberg If you could do that, it would be greatly appreciated. I haven't bought one yet, and am trying to make a decision.
