Audio Interfaces Tested For Screenflow 6

As Craig and the team have said that it's impossible to test audio interfaces and qualify them then I thought I'd start a list of those tested with results. Please add any that you test and say if they work or don't, or do with some issues.

  • 6i6 works fine here but haven't tried more than 2 channels.

  • Jonathan Slatter I'm really, really curious if Screenflow allows you to record more than 2 channels at a time form the 6i6.

  • Yes will do once I am back in studio next week. Always had problems with RME but Focusrite always worked well. Will check the multichannel.

  • In the meantime, CraigS , are you familiar with any audio interface or configuration that allows SF to record more than two channels of external audio (not computer audio) at once? Or to route an external audio source other than the one SF is set to record to "computer audio" so it would capture that as well?

Chris Meyer The people who did our internal testing will be back next week. I'll try to find out what they tested with.

  • CraigS Thanks. It might be interesting to check with the engineers to see if the current release is even designed to do that.

Chris Meyer It's designed to handle multichannel input from USB mixers.

    ScreenFlow What's New

    Multi-Channel Audio Mixer

ScreenFlow now sees and records multiple audio channel inputs from USB mixers. Record up to 16 discrete audio channels from a single USB input, and mix and adjust them separately in ScreenFlow’s inspector.

  • CraigS Great! They certainly had to be tested with at least one device; knowing what works would be a good starting point.

In the meantime, best wishes for you in the New Year!

Chris Meyer It's possible they wanted to avoid recommending a specific product officially but even unofficially it would be important.

  • CraigS OK tested Screenflow 6 with Focusrite 6i6 2nd gen here - works fine. Youtube video here below (it's a screen flow of a screen flow)

You can record multiple audio channels plus computer audio - and then you have mix control over those channels to solo, pan and level. Separate lanes would be nice.. but can't see that available? Anyway works fine with Focusrite 6i6 2nd gen. J

Jonathan Slatter Have you tried Extract Audio? It should list the individual channels as well as all Channels. Right Click on the 6i6 audio clip in the timeline.

Jonathan Slatter I guess because it's in a context menu it's not obvious.

  • Jonathan Slatter Thank you! That was extremely helpful. Nice coincidence that you show it in a musical context; I've been recording some music tutorial videos lately, and even thought the main action is caught on camera, I run dual-system audio into the Mac, and recently needed voiceover headset + stereo out. I could use an audio app to just capture the audio, but I've been using a webcam mounted on a boom over the keyboard to capture an inset, and ScreenFlow works great for capturing the webcam + audio tracks (except for the delay I need to hand re-sync - new feature request coming on remember that as a preference). Now I'm off to change out the mixer in my tutorial recording room to a Mackie with multiple sends to accommodate this expanded setup...

  • I've tried Screenflow 4.5.2 as well as Screenflow 6 using Babyface Pro with latest update on Mac OS X El Capitan 10.11.6. This is how it sounds: https://youtu.be/Xp1U3OR4iAE

I've read about the work around up in this thread. Haven't tried it yet. Out of curiosity: Does Telestream need to work on this or does it make sense to contact RME? Is that a complex issue to fix? Just thinking it would be great having it fixed as it looks like it exists for a while now.

  • Ah yes i remember that sound very well.... Exactly as I had it with my BabyFace. It doesn't work as you have found out. I don't have a Babyface anymore but it is frustrating I know.
