IMPORTANT changes for Wirecast users streaming to Facebook
On April 4th, 2018, Facebook announced an upcoming change to the way 3rd party applications access data on their platform. Read the official Facebook announcement here.
Moving forward, Wirecast users with active support who keep their application up-to-date will not need to worry. We ask that you upgrade to the latest version of Wirecast to limit the impact of these Facebook restrictions.
If you continue to stay on an earlier version of Wirecast, please be advised that the Facebook destination in output settings will cease to function in the near future.
Facebook will continue to support generic RTMP for the short-term; however, they have also announced plans to discontinue RTMP in favor of RTMPS. RTMPS will not be supported in earlier versions of Wirecast so we highly encourage you to upgrade in order to avoid disruptions to your Facebook streaming.
Note: Generic RTMP often results in fewer viewers due to the inability to geo-tag your stream and be featured on the Facebook map. Generic RTMP also requires all stream configurations (scheduling, titles, descriptions, etc.) to be completed within the Facebook website.
On July 1st, 2018, email and phone support for Wirecast 7 will end. Consider upgrading to qualify for software updates and access to our support team. From July 1st onward version 7 users will only be able to access our self-service resources, community forum and knowledge base.
As always, please feel free to contact us should you have any additional questions
