Masking tools in ScreenFlow feature request

I'm working on a new set of tutorials for creating advanced call outs, and have found the lack of good solid masking tools in ScreenFlow to be a real limitation.  In a future release would love to a new Masking tool set that:

1. allows users to create masks based on common primitive shapes: ellipse, rectangle, polygon

2. draw mask feature.  Draw using bezier curves a shape for the masks.

3. basic masking features: feather edge, opacity of mask, invert mask, apply stroke to mask, gradient masks (linear and radial), rotate mask

4. load b&w or greyscale image as masks.

Right now users can use the crop tool to create a basic mask, or overlay solid color in a compound clip and use the chroma key to kinda sorta make this work, but none of these are ideal solutions.

Also, please fix the crop tool in the sidebar bug.  Currently you can enter quick crop mode on the canvas by holding down control, but if you use the sliders you can only crop in up to 400 pixels in a single direction. You can enter a value into the crop box and crop a side further than 400 pixels, but the slider should simply auto adjust it's values to the dimensions of the currently selected object.

Also, please enhance the basic call out tools in the never update to ScreenFlow. The current tools are quite limited.  Having even basic drawing functionality like in Keynote, to draw more types of primitive shapes, including bezier curves would be a really nice enhancement to the product.

  • Is this feature still really not available yet? This request was from 3 years ago!

I just shot a video in front of a green screen thinking I could mask out the shotgun mic and fuzzy with a mask in post... only to find this is not an option. :/ My mic is flying in over my shoulder so I cannot use crop or it will crop half my shoulder as well. :(

can we at least get a 16 point garbage matte? :D

Andrew Breault Not yet. Please vote for it. The votes count to the developers.
If you have another feature request please do post that as another request.

Has there been any movement on the mask with shapes request? It would be an improvement to be able to mask out the interior of the frame. Right now I have to make at least four levels and crop each separately to use an mask around the interior of a clip

Jim Epler I can't speak to the feature implementation roadmap but the developers are aware of its importance.

Adding to this request that I would like to be able to apply an ease-in/out curve to changes made in crop values.  This would allow for smoother animations in shapes that have crop sizes that are changing over time.

Yes that's been requested. This is about Masking though. You may want to make a separate request for cropping which is not quite the same thing.

  • Is anyone of Telestream actually reading this? Version 10, 4 years later, and Screenflow still cannot do what Loom does out of the box, that is, put a mask around my camera recording when I'm presenting?

Eckart Burgwedel There's underlying work that must be done before masks are implemented.

    • CraigS Thanks, Craig. I acknowledge that there's underlying work, but 4 years seems sufficient time to do that work, and I do appreciate that your team needs to focus. My conclusion is that the 'masking' feature requests have simply not received enough upvotes yet to be relevant to your roadmap. Would that be a fair assumption?

Upvotes help (Why you should vote) but the underlying changes for masks in ScreenFlow is major. In other words, significant other related work must be done first.
