Watermark on Olympus digital recorded files playback

I purchased a digital recorder from Olympus and got its Sonority software to play back and edit files on my Mac computers.  In the past few years, I have suddenly got a problem with "this is a demonstration of flip for mac" playing when I am trying to transcribe files recorded on the digital recorder, downloaded to my mac and loaded directly into the Olympus Sonority software.  I do record them in WMA format.  What is going on?  I can't get rid of it and it is interfering with my ability to transcribe interview recordings!

  • The only way to play back WMA on Mac is with Flip4Mac. It sounds like you're running a demo. You can uninstall Flip4Mac (also see this uninstall at the bootom) and see if the file plays. If not, you'd need the plugin. WMA is not native to the Mac, Quicktime or AV Foundation. After all, that's why we developed the plugin.

  • I did not have Flip4Mac installed and no telestream files were installed in the library, as per uninstall directions. There was an internet plug-in only, but I uninstalled that, repaired permissions and it appears the problem is gone.  If I need and purchase Flip4Mac, would that problem reappear?

    Thanks much for your help.

  • The only way to get "this is a demonstration of Flip4Mac" would be to have the demo version installed. Apparently it was at one time.

See if you can play the WMA now. If you can then you may have something else installed that can play WMA as it's not supported natively by Apple.

  • Files play within my Olympus Sonority software as intended, no watermark.

  • It's good to hear you've found a player and there's no issue.
