ScreenFlow 10 displaying and exporting color artifacts

The same file, created in SF 9, opens fine in SF 9, but displays diagonal color artifacts when opened and exported in both SF 10.0.2 and 10.0.3.  The clean image attached is the file opened in SF 9,  the one with the color artifacts is the same file opened in SF 10.0.3.

No proxies, no video filters, no callouts applied.  This is how it looks when first opening the file.

This is a lot worse than the previously reported problem that was fixed in v.10.0.2:
FIXED – Resolved screen recordings showing slight offset in icon color/outline

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  • This is happening on at least three of our computers all running ScreenFlow 10.0.2 on Catalina and 10.0.3 on Big Sur.

What does it look like when exported?
Can you send us the document?
Are you using Intel or M1 Macs?
Is this file a Screen Recording or Imported?

CraigS Intel Macs.  And the artifacts as in the exports as well.

How would you like me to send you the sample file(s)?  Just zip it and attach it to a reply here?

If they aren't too large. Otherwise Dropbox or something similar.

If it's easy for you to create you could create a small sample document exhibiting the issue.

Also, we'd like to know if you do the same screen capture in 10.0.3 does it look good?
As described it seems to be happening for you in documented created in 9 and then imported into 10 so we want to know if it's specific to that workflow.

CraigS We are seeing this behavior only in files sent to us from one of our course authors.  Not from other authors who are also using SF 9.  And it does not present itself in SFs that we record ourselves in SF 9 and open in SF 10.

I am still awaiting to hear back from the author about which exact version they used to record them beyond just v9, what Mac OS, Intel vs. M1, and computer model.

  •  Here you go.  Created in SF 9.0.6. I have several other files that are displaying the same behavior from the same source.

      Craig Reed Thanks for that.
Tested on macOS 10.15.7 on iMac Pro.
      ScreenFlow 9.0.7 looks good
ScreenFlow 10.0.3 looks as you have shown. The colors are askew.

Can you detail which mac models they are coming from?
Are their other document that don't have issues that were recording the same program?
Do you know the macOS used?

We're trying to determine if there's a pattern between the program recorded and Mac model it was recorded on and the macOS version.

CraigS Thanks for confirming the behavior.  I will get right back here as soon as I hear back from the author what their setup was for recording these.  They all involved recording Ableton Live (v.11, I think).

Craig Reed Thanks. The developers will want to know how to reproduce the issue by making their own recording.

  • While waiting to get word on the full recording setup info, I can tell you that the artifacts show up regardless of what program is being recorded.  We can see it in their recordings of Ableton Live, Pro Tools, and Apple Logic, (as seen here).

And you can see that the artifacts look different on the Canvas image of the recording than they do in the Library asset thumbnail and Timeline thumbnails.

Craig Reed Perhaps it's specific to their hardware macOS combination since it seems it may be specific to certain users. Not yet seeing other reports of this.

We need to know about hardware. Which Mac model (the GPU is a factor for example), monitors, how attached (which can also impact GPU and recording).
