Delay when switching with Streamdeck

Streamdeck is a perfect tool for many things and it´s working fine with Wirecast. But one thing is really annoying. When you switch to a new take there is at slight delay before the switch actually take place. This is not the case when you do the switch from the computer keyboard. Why is that? Is it fixable?

Yes and another thing...I wish for more options when assigning buttons. I would for instance very much like to have one button for immediate take (cut) and another for mix, like you can with the computer keyboard using the Spacebar and the Enter keys for cut and for mix.

The best!

  • Sorry, I meant "shot" when I wrote "take"

Richard Niklasson Make sure you're using  Wirecast 14.3.4. Streamdeck plugin 1.4.
Also don' connect the Streamdeck through a hub or dock. Please test a direct connection to the computer.

  • All software up to date and Streamdeck connected directly to my Mac M1 computer but still there is this slight differens between switching with the computer keyboard and the Streamdeck. Its annoying to have that 50-100 msec delay when you do music for instance. One of the the main advantages with the Streamdeck is that you are able to switch even if  another window in the computers screen is in focus (and you therefore could not use the keyboard for switching).

Please make the Streamdeck as immediate as the computer keyboard.

    All the best!

Richard Niklasson Is there any way you can measure the difference between using the keyboard and the Streamdeck between the same two shots. It's quite possible though that the Streamdeck being an external USB device, may have some inherent latency.

Can you test it in another program for example compared to keyboard as well?
In other words, verify the issue is Wirecast and not an inherent issue with the Streamdeck.

Wirecast's stream deck plugin does not have direct access to Wirecast - it uses the scripting API. On macOS, we communicate with the scripting API via AppleScript.
A latency of 50-100ms would seem normal.

  • OK so there is not so much to about it then.
I strongly recommend thou that you implement another button for switching so you can have one for cut an another for mix. It would be obvious to anyone who ever used a regular videomixer that this is elementary. When cutting between cameras and then mixing to a videoclip for example, there will be no time to fiddle around withe mouse.

Is there any other hardware that works faster with Wirecast than the Stream deck?
The latency kind of destroys the feeling.
