New M1 chip Mac Mini vs the 2013 Mac Pro trashcan with Screenflow

Just watched the Apple event today. I have to wonder, with its new M1 chip, if a new Mac Mini would perform  better than the 2013 can when it comes to Screenflow video editing.

The new M1 Mini has a maximum of 16G RAM. But it's sounding like with the new chip integration, the CPU takes the roll of what used to need RAM (I've got no idea if this is true yet).

It may be a worthy experiment, to get a maxed out Mini and see how it compares to my 2013 Mac Pro (with 64G ram). I do use video editing, but nothing that weighty.

Just thinking out loud here to the Screenflow group, just in case I'm not the only one :)

We are actively updating ScreenFlow to be compatible with the new Apple Silicon hardware. Please note, ScreenFlow does not work under Rosetta emulation. If ScreenFlow is a critical application, we recommend holding off on transitioning to the new Apple Silicon hardware until we have a more concrete release date.

CraigS I was just about to post that my new Apple M1 chip is not running Screenflow. When I try to record, My system crashes to the login screen.

We are actively updating ScreenFlow to be compatible with the new Apple Silicon hardware. The completion of this work depends on several of our integrated partners updating their applications as well."

Is this another one of those things where you need Apple to re-write or write code or drivers to get Screenflow to work? My point being that it never happened last time and I fear that Screenflow might just never work with ARM based Macs. Thanks.

Kenny Gioia Not even remotely related. Audio Capture has to be done differently unless Apple has an API. That audio drive issue is not limited to our product. It's a change for all developers who capture audio.

Apple has a complete set of tools to write for Apple Silicon. We will have to continue to use our method of capturing system audio though.

Can you tell us if it works for playback and editing? Maybe we can capture on the old macs running Screenflow 7.2 and edit on the new Macs with Screenflow 9?

ScreenFlow 9 isn't compatible with Apple Silicon until will come out with the compatible update. I wouldn't risk any important project with an app that doesn't work under Rosetta 2 at least. ScreenFlow is not running reliably under Rosetta 2. It's best to wait.

Plegilink We're testing. Since testing can expose things that may need further fixing, we don't have a specific date other than to say we're working on it as quickly as we can.
