External scratch SSD and Copy Media

Hi

I have seen this discussed before as I Googled for help first and a discussion about Screenflow 4.5 where copy media takes a very long time and didn't seem necessary, I'm wondering if there is a work around to that problem now? Some way of avoiding it.

iMac 5K, late 2014

Screenflow 6.1

External: 2TB SSD connected via Thunderbolt 2

The External disk is set as the scratch disk so I would assume everything would be on there, even if it wasn't and I can only give my gut feeling on this but the copy media time seems considerably longer then if that many GBs were copied via normal drag and drop.
