How to split one file into several files

Hey guys!

I've recorded some sessions into only one ScreenFlow file. Now, I'd like to split it into several files. For example one ScreenFlow per each row of my media library displayed in the image above.

What is the best way to do this?

First export the videos (how can I do this?!) and then import into a new ScreenFlow file or is there a better way to do this?

Thanks in advance for your help!

The source file is never split as it contains information from OS/GPU communication that allows our Actions and Callouts to work.

You can certainly put in timeline and export ranges but the exported pieces are no longer ScreenFlow recordings so certain Actions and Callouts wouldn't work on them (cursor and window highlighting for example).

It's not clear why you'd need to split them in the Media Library since you can do that in the timeline as you edit.

Ok, that makes sense! Thank you for your reply!

I want to split it, because it is clearer if I have several files instead of one big big file.

But, I found a solution: I copied the big file a few times and just deleted per file each medias, whose aren't in the other file. So I found a way to split it up into several files.

Armin This is how I do it. It doesn't change anything in the Media Library but I can then move around the rename clips in the timeline.

    Your way is interesting too.

    • CraigS how would you make an exported video out of each of those individually renamed files? Can you export just the clip in one project or do you need to actually do multiple projects?

Brad Spencer If you're referring to clips in the Media Library, you'd put them in the timeline and range select and export each one at a time.

If you make separate Documents you can Batch Export instead.

    • CraigS Guess maybe I'm not explaining myself correctly (or I'm oblivious that you just answered).

I guess what I"m saying is what if I record a 12 minute video. I split it into 4 equal 3 min components and want to make each 3min video it's own thing.

Can I just export the one clip somehow?

Or save it somewhere and move it into a new document (then use your batch export method?)

Guess I'm just unclear on what happens if all 4 clips are made from one file and then are in one timeline if I can export individually somehow.

Pardon if I'm just misunderstanding your answer...seems like the batch export would be good if I had them already cut and moved into new documents but I don't know how to take those 4 clips from one document and make it into 4 documents to do the batch method.

      Thanks for clarifying...appreciate your time.

Place entire clip or sections in the timeline. Mark Range and export. Mark the next range and then export.

You can't split a recording as I responded to the original poster.

    • CraigS thanks so much for clarifying. Really appreciate it.

Found a great tutorial on Youtube showing the export range

In case anyone else has this issue in the future.
