can´t edit a zoom .mp4 file
Hi, I have a recording of a zoom meeting that is 140+ Mbs big. When I try to edit it, there comes a point where part of the video turn green and/or the whole video file gets corrupted. Also when I try to extract the audio, editing becomes impossible.
Is the file to big? Any known issues? Best practices with zoom video call recordings? Thanks, Demian

Totally having the same issue with zoom files and I have been having it for over a year now.

Anne Ganguzza and I am literally only trying to shave off the first 45 seconds off the video and have been unsuccessful at creating a usable video for the past 3 hours. this is ridiculous - every time there is an upgrade I pay for it thinking the issue will be fixed but it still has not been resolved. what will it take? The majority of editing fr me is Zoom files.

Anne Ganguzza Zoom files will playback in 7.3 but due to the file structure they sometimes turn green. Please do fill out the previously posted form while we work on the fix. The workaround of re-encoding in Finder desktop will give you a file you can edit in ScreenFlow.

@Craig Yes the workaround creates a file which is HUGE and takes quite some time to render. But at least I have that. Thank you in advance for looking int a fix for this - I almost always edit zoom videos and it is kind of critical for my business so it would be great to get a fix for this.

Anne Ganguzza Zoom now has a solution on their end. They have an option to optimize the file.

Zoom desktop client Preferences checkbox for compatibility. This should be enabled when recording.
By the way, the issue with Zoom files is not specific to ScreenFlow. The non optimized version created issues with a number of video editing programs.

CraigS The problem with this is not every video I need optimize for 3rd party video editors. Will this make this video more compressed or less quality?

CraigS I wasn't given this option after right-clicking. Does it have to be on Desktop? I opened Finder, and it's in my Dropbox folder.

Steve Hughes never mind. It's under Services at the bottom. Never used that feature before.

Steve Hughes Zoom added that to address this issue. The problem is their recordings otherwise don't generate enough key frames needed for proper use an editor although would be fine in a simple player.

CraigS Thanks so much! I'll just need to create some new content to work with. I did go through and search posts last night and found all the posts/comments related to this - very informative. However, it takes FOREVER for my MBP to process current vids and I tried both ProRes and 1080. I'll clean up my hard drive/desktop and try again.

When I right click> Services> Encode Selected Video Files I get a 0kb zoom_0.m4v that is nothing usable.
Any updates on how to work with these Zoom video files?
I had my recording set to optimize for 3rd party video editor when I recorded it, but it's still unusable. -

CraigS thank you. I may have figured it out. There’s 2 different settings for this. Setting in your account does not affect local recordings, so have now changed that. Now if I can figure out how to reprocess a prior recording (if that’s possible) I’ll test. Otherwise, I’ll have to wait until next time.

Lisa League You should be able to re-encode in macOS Finder with Encode Selected Video Files. Try a different setting such as Apple ProRes.

Lisa League Can you play the Zoom file in Quicktime? Just making sure there's not an issue with the file. If you can link to the original file I can download and test on my system.

CraigS I can play both Zoom .mov and .mp4, but I’ve tried editing and converting and it’s not worth spending any more time on it. It was a recording of a team meeting that I won’t share outside my business anyway.

Lisa League Finder should be able to convert it though so I just want to make sure there's no other latent problem that will show up at some future point.
You may want to test with another filer and finder just to make sure there's no other issue. -
I had the same thing happen with the green screen problem...here's what worked for me: I uploaded the zoom video to my youtube account and then re-downloaded it as an mp4 and dragged that to Screen Flow and it worked.

Dave Allred Although you can re-encode in Finder, having YouTube do it would certainly work as well. Finder may be faster since no uploading and downloading is needed. The file size might be larger form the comparable frame size from YouTube though.

CraigS yes, but like many people in this thread, encoding did not work at all for me.

Dave Allred The Zoom files certainly present challenges. A utility like the free Handbrake might work locally.

CraigS I'm having the same issue now with Screenflow version 8.2.3 using a zoom file.
