Batch Export Multiple Clips

I am one of many Pluralsight authors that use ScreenFlow for producing our courses. Courses on Pluralsight are broken up into modules, which are comprised of clips. So you have a hierarchy like

Course > Module > Clip

When recording, I like to record an entire module together in a single project. Then when it comes time to produce the clips, I have to manually select the ranges on the timeline for each one and export 1 x 1. This is painful...

So finding a way to automate the batch export of multiple clips, possibly using markers as in/out points, would save me a ton of time. Hope this helps!

Thanks,

Ben

  • ScreenFlow does support Batch Export of projects but, as you note, not ranges within a single project. I can see why it would help given your workflow.

Certainly do fill out the form and make the feature request. You may want to add why you prefer to record the modules in a single project. It may help the developers understand the need.

  • I just wanted to throw my hat in on this as well.

This feature would be super useful for me.

Right now, I do a lot of my trainings live in a handful of takes, but I export video clips that are shorter when someone goes back through the videos as a course.

It would be much easier to take the recordings, trim the stuff that's not needed, and add markers where I'd like it broken down and then export separate videos based on the markers than it is to set the in/out manually for each video and have to sit here while they export.

  • you can copy segments between projects.   After you shoot your entire module, chop it up into clips, and then copy each clip into its own project.  Then you can batch export all of the projects at once.

  • CraigS It also eats up a TON of memory having multiple projects open at the same time while you're copying segments between projects.

  • Charles Schiermeyer Each new project would have a complete copy of the clip as well. Having multiple timelines in one project could all point to the same master clip.

  • This would be incredibly useful for me also, as a video editor working in educational fields. Sometimes I need to take these clips over to Premiere.

In short: if we could right-click any of the clips in the media library, and pick "Export Clip," I would love it. Drag and drop to the desktop also would be great.

    Thanks!

  • Thomas Whitmire Thanks for including a workflow example. The developers like to see those explanations to understand the need.

  • Or maybe could the marker be exported as well with the exported video? That way we could split track easily in another video editor apps.

  • Ananggadipa Raswanto While markers can be read in Quicktime Player (for example) they aren't read in some other NLEs like FCPX. It certainly would be useful to have markers that could be read in other NLEs. Absolutely fill out the form and make the feature request.

  • Some kind of in/out list that we could use as the basis of the export would probably be easiest, since you already have Export Selected Range.  Just make it so we can export clips based on a list of ranges.

  • I agree with the rest, being able to batch export from within the same timeline would be amazing. I'll drop another feature request in for this.

  • Dan Rollins Please do. The more request for a specific feature, the greater the potential impact on development priority.

  • Is something like this already implemented? I need it.

  • Teefin  ScreenFlow can batch export multiple documents but not yet multiple selections within a single document. If you would like that specifically you should vote for this and, if possible, fill out the previously linked feature request form and explain your workflow as that helps determine how the developer might implement it.
