Optimal streaming settings...
So now that I've got my Wirecast Gear up and running, what would you suggest as the optimal output settings for a 1080p (25fps) broadcast to YouTube? We have a 20mb broadband connection and are streaming 'how to' demos on Watercolour, Oil and Acrylic painting (so nothing too fast paced) on 4 cameras.
That can only tests show you. But you should start with 6mbit and compare to 8 and maybe 10Mbit. x264 are better on performance than h264, but the quality are more or less the same at theses high bitrates.
And good lightning helps of course, since gain and noise eats more CPU power during the live transcoding.
Encoder rate should never be more than half your upload speed. Speedtest.
As Kim mentions, x264 is better than H.264. QuickSync is the most CPU efficient. Lower motion can use lower data rates compared to fast motion such as action sports and motion graphics. For detailed work you may still opt for a higher data rate for more detailed image. If you have the bandwidth opt for the higher settings in my opinion. YouTube will offer the viewer lower quality options if they need that.
