I'd like to help but you'd need to provide more information.
What version of Screenflow? Current is 8.2.2
    What OS version?
It's not clear what you're doing to get to this point. Are you opening the file after you start ScreenFlow?

When reporting issues please include information so we know all your steps. The lack of information will slow troubleshooting.

  • CraigS Yes I have current 8.2.2. My OS Version on mac is mojava 10.14.3. So (Edited) I have access to some ScreenFlow files (I needed to save them to the desktop to open which was odd.) When it was in a folder on the Desktop it wouldn't open. There's a question there as to why it wouldn't open in a folder?

However other that are I still have a few files as in 20-30 min clips that I have edited already that won't open even after ScreenFlow has opened other files.

I'll attach a video recording for you to see what I'm talking about

Thanks. That video helps clarify the issue.

If you start ScreenFlow first and then in ScreenFlow use File > Open
Can you then open the files?

  • Thank you, Yes I created another video to share with you. It doesn't give me the option to open it.

Renato Antonio Fabri Oliveira Those projects seem to be corrupted. They're not recognized as name.screenflow projects.
Did you use dropbox or any cloud service folder at any point?

  • CraigS I save it to desktop which is icloud, but that's for every single file including the files that do open. What do I have to do to be able to open it?

Just to be clear you have your computer set to backup your desktop to iCloud?
    Please confirm.

The cloud backup services seem to be hit and miss depending on when the file is saved during the syncing process.

I have a few things for you to try. First select one of the problem files and Rename adding the .screenflow extension. Let's see if that's part of the issue.

  • Yes I believe so, Everything that is saved on desktop I can open on my phone.

In regards to the .screenflow, I tired to rename it & it says

"The name “Value Video #2 (final)” with extension “.screenflow” is already taken. Please choose a different name."

Renato Antonio Fabri Oliveira Given the details it sounds like the cloud syncing is the issue.

Report the issue explaining how you have your entire desktop set to backup to iCloud.

    ScreenFlow Support Form

Sorry about all this since it's not clear to the end user.

There may be was to save the media (if it didn't become corrupted) but that won't save the work you've done on the timeline. You can right click on Show Package Contents and open the Media folder.

    See this thread

It seems iCloud should be added to that. Sorry.

A workaround for the time being may be to create another Admin User Account that doesn't back up to iCloud. Make your projects there and copy the projects over to the account that backs up to iCloud. The other account can be your local "safe" location.

Another workflow would be, from the "safe" account, is to zip the projects and then upload them.

  • @CraigS, I see. Thank you. I just much rather not use my computer's space since my clips are long. Is any workaround with each clip being 12-15 GBS I can only save a finite amount with that strategy.

Renato Antonio Fabri Oliveira Record locally to a drive not backing up to the cloud. Zip the file and move to a location that backs up to the cloud. The Zipped file should be protected. Then you can unzip as needed.

One possible workflow is only have your Documents folder (plus any others you'd like) backup to the cloud and use your Desktop as a temporary local space. Zip and put in the Documents folder or maybe a folder called ScreenFlowProjects.

For extra safety, I'd put the project in a folder and zip the folder instead of the project. That's my personal preferred way to work when I use Dropbox to backup.

The key point is that you should zip in a place that isn't communicating with the cloud because the sync process can corrupt the media or the project if it's syncing during use. This is probably also why some projects are OK but others are corrupted.
