Elgato Stream Deck Support?

  1. Does Stream Deck work together with Screenflow?
  2. It looks like there are special integrations available (OBS seems to be such a one) is there anything like this for Screenflow?

  • Stream Deck works with our Wirecast program which is in the same market as OBS more or less. Special integration was added for that.

How would you want Stream Deck to work with ScreenFlow?

  • This is our Wirecast Stream Deck integration documentation

  • We don't have this for ScreenFlow at this time. The developers might be interested how customization might look vs doing this without special integration (have you tried?).

  • Well, I must say that I'm not a pro regarding these things... Hence, I wanted to know if any special features are supported.

Since I use SF for screencasts, all functions that support such a workflow are welcome. Like stop/start cam recording, start/stop desktop recording, enable/disable sound recording etc.

  • Robert M. Münch We haven't done any specific integration. Certainly, fill out the form and make the feature request.

  • Would it be possible to write a plug-in myself? So, can I control SF from the outside via some API or service calls?

  • So, I have my Stream Deck now. Pretty nice and things like start/stop, pause a recording are simple to set up.

Submitted an FR for a dedicated integration that could cover all kinds of changes to the recording: which screen area, which screen, cam on/off, etc.

  • Robert M. Münch Yes, as you get a handle on creating buttons it can become clearer where integration can help. That's what happened with Wirecast so, having done that there, the developers may be able to consider direct integration with ScreenFlow as well. Personally I think this is a good idea.

  • I created a StreamDeck profile using a ScreenFlow trial to test possibilities and it can really to boost productivity!

  • Ricardo Matosinhos Wow... cool. What is it all about? I see that you mostly did editing functions, right?

CraigS After using Stream Deck now for some time, and I mostly use it while recording, some patterns show up: It would be great to have a function to switch between what is recorded: which screen, video (yes/no), template, etc.

And what's really missing is, that I can switch these things during a recording. So, switching from screen-1 to 2, record video or not, etc. These things should be made much more dynamic.

  • I believe in screen flow the idea is to record both screens and then decide in post production. I just created shortcuts for the available functions with shortcut. If the programmers include more shortcuts on the program then stream deck can also use them. I use stream deck in OBS with a multi action that reactivates one mic and activate the other. The next time I press the same key it inverts the process. These kind of actions really give productivity!

  • Robert M. Münch As Ricardo notes, the idea is to record everything (including multiple screens at the same time) and decide how to edit after. StreamDeck can certainly be useful for editing.

  • Ricardo Matosinhos Just in case, you can create more shortcuts although not every function can be added.

  • CraigS Hmm... ok. The thing is, I use SF to record some web-meetings and sometimes just need the sound. So, files are getting very large without any need.

Unfortunately, there is no way in SF to permanently delete the video recording. I can get rid of it in the timeline but the recording will still be available. I would have to export a new file to get rid of it...

  • Robert M. Münch ScreenFlow can record audio-only if you prefer.

While ScreenFlow can delete entirely unused files, if you use any portion of the file, video or audio, the file is considered in use.

  • Nice. I was only using the default ones. Thank you, I will explore it

  • Ricardo this is super cool and I'm trying to make this work.  For some reason I can't import the profile.  I'm wondering if you might be using a "windows" version of streamdeck....

  • Ricardo ...weird!  So am I .  Would it be possible for you to export that again? I tried changing the file name extension to .streamdeckProfile but that didn't allow it to import either (at least it "saw it" though)

  • Ricardo 🙏 Please!
