Secundairy output flickering

Hi we're using version 14.2.1 and we're encountering the folowing problem, when using a multiviewer screen and a secundairy live output, the secundairy output is dropping to black for less than a second on onregular basis, but at least every few minutes..

  • Thanks for reporting. I'd need complete tech specs, devices connected and shots involves. Include system CPU% as well.

     That can help. Thank you.

We'd also need to know what is attached to Multi-Viewer output and what is attached to Secondary Display Output and how they are attached.

When you are experiencing the issue we may also need a System Diagnostics Report. Wirecast > Help > Send Support Information but select the Save Report button and attach that report here as well.

CraigS  I've heard from my collegue that the issue also occured without the use of the multiviewer. Attached to the secundairy display output was a Blackmagic Webpresenter

CraigS HDMI cable from gpu to Webpresenter. If we save the report file now, will that contain the data from last weeks show, or will it be empty after a reboot?

The logs stay for a bit. It's best to create it immediately after the incident as it will be the easiest for the developers to find. A quick test should be good enough.

Christian 14.3 has been released. Please update and test in a New Blank Document rather than importing the old document. I'd recommend eliminating the WebPresenter just in case that's the issue and connect your computer directly to a second monitor to test this.

CraigS We did the testing with the same file, to create the same software situation. We already swapped the webpresenter for a regular monitor, so that was not the issue. We will try another time with a new file, or do you think it’s fixed in the 14.3 version?

Christian This may be fixed in 14.3. Please check.
If you still see the issue please generate a new support file after using 14.3 and a new document.

In your original description you mention Multi-Viewer and Secondary Display output.
In your video I only see your main monitor and a second monitor so I'm not sure if it's Multi-Viewer or Secondary Display Output.

Is this Multi-Viewer or Secondary Display Output? What is the "other" one doing (apparently not shown in the video)?

We need to know exactly what is your monitor setup and how BOTH Multi-Viewer and Secondary Display doing and how they are being feed from the GPU?

CraigS As I mentioned before it also happens without a multiviewer connected just the secondary output connected, thats the same output as you see on this video, One monitor showing the interface and the second one showing the PGM on Secundary Display output, Both monitors are connected with a 2m HDMI 2.0 cable.

This heavy flickering happens since upgrading to version 14.3, before that it was just an ocasional flash.

Christian What audio Device do you have assigned to Secondary Display Output?
      That might be a factor.

Christian We're still investigating. Confirm that you've updated to 14.3.1 and still have it. There's speculation that it's related to the specific CPU/GPU combination. Is it possible you can swap out the GPU? That may verify or disprove that.

Christian Perhaps an AMD GPU (borrow one if you can rather than buy). Speculating that AMD CPU and GeForce GPU might be an issue for Wirecast.

Another thing you might check first is to see if you have NVIDIA GeForce Experience software installed. If so, try uninstalling and rebooting (we've seen some issues with that installed in the past and its impact on GPU use for us).

The line of thinking is because we don't have other reports of this so it may be related to the specific combination. We do have other AMD Ryzen Threadripper users and haven't had reports of this from them so it's possible combination specific or some other variable in play.

CraigS I'm going to chime in here to say that I experienced this on an Intel processor (i-7 6700) with Nvidia GPU (1080ti)  There were certain combinations of alpha that seemed to trigger it for us, a text crawl with a .png bug over other video, or multiple greenscreen shots.  I don't have access to that hardware anymore and I've not seen it on my current Threadripper/nvidia gpu machine.  We didn't have geforce experience installed on either machine.

CraigS in our case it had nothing to do with alpha shots..

      Christian Thanks for confirming that.
The "variable" still seems to be the GPU possibly impacting things differently on different systems but with the same outcome. Still investigating.

Have you swapped out the GPU and tested it?

CraigS  Hi Craig, an update from my side, we swapped GPU for an AMD GPU, however there was a Rednet dante pci card in the machine as well. The audio department had issues with running other software on the machine and took that card out, after the Rednet card has been removed the flickering hasn't occured anymore, we didn't had the time or a good way to do a longer test to see if it still happens, but for now with the shorter tests we weren't able to replicate the error.. any thoughts on this?
