using a robotic TV drop down with chromakey display in wirecast

Hi,

We have obtained a set of robotic TV drop-down animations from the link below to be used in virtual set setup.

https://virtual-studio-set.com/collections/broadcast-after-effects-templates/products/robotic-tv-drop-down-with-alpha?variant=20700653682750

As the TV is dropped into you and angled towards the camera (there is an off-axes view as well which would require the video source behind it to be transformed to fit the screen).

Trouble is if you put a source behind where the TV is going to end up, it's already visible before the animation has been completed.

Ideally the background element needs to be visible from the moment the movement stops and the black screen start to fade to green (or to your background picture/video of course).

Is there a way in Wirecast to delay, best to do this with a placeholder, the moment the placeholder becomes visible from the start of the shot to time it with the start of the fading green moment?

Secondly: do placeholders within shots have to be of the same lengt as the shot itself? e.g. when removing the display from the output we ideally would like to have the placeholder in view from the moment the TV starts to fade from "green" back to black, then have the placeholder disappear whilst the animation tilts the screen and removes it from view.

Thirdly: is it possible to transform a video source in such a way that if the tv in shot is angled, the source behind it fits the same angled view so it looks realistic?

You can use the rotation and crop controls in the Shot Layer Properties to fit a source into the keyable area. Animation is done by using the Smooth Transition. You could animate a drop-down for both the TV and the source. If the set itself animates that would be tricky because there's no way to animate within a shot, only between shots.

    • CraigS that's precisely the challenge as the TV itself already animates within the shot not only from the top down (or bottom up) but then flips from vertical to horizontal before slowly turning green.

Best solution we can come up with is to cut the animated clip in 4 sections:

      - drop down + flip

      - fading to green + fully green hold with placeholder

      - fade to black + placeholder

      - flip virtually and move back up out of view

Unless there is a way to delay the placeholder coming into view, this seems to be the best solution.

Alternatively, slightly offtopic, would it be possible to create this in Apple Motion including a placeholder which Wirecast recognises as placeholder?

    • CraigS additionally, can you group 4 shots together in a template?

You can select multiple items in a shot and move them. We are looking at a grouping feature.

Currently, there's no way to build external placeholders but you can certainly create animations in Motion and import them.

    • CraigS we've done that before for fire-like lower thirds.

Maybe this is another feature requests, both for text boxes and placeholders for media/video sources ;)

  • Usually this could be done with a UV matte including reflections for your virtual set (So that the TV content is influencing your scene). That is how I would do these kinda tasks. With triggers you can delay actions. Very minimal effort needed. I can show you a demo if you like. Just PM me.
