Audio Dropouts When Using Rendezvous

Does anyone have issues with audio dropouts when using Rendezvous?

I produce a show remotely, and the audio drops out completely for brief blips at random moments. Yesterday's stream has an example at the 44-second mark: https://youtu.be/2ywkh5_10VM?t=39 (and then throughout).

This occurs both on the recorded local file and the live stream (though I don't hear it while monitoring live.)

I'm using 14.1.2 on an i7 iMac with 32GB of RAM and Catalina.

Any insight is appreciated.

  • Thanks. I'm installing now and will try it for tonight's show.

    • CraigS Thanks, Craig. I think the 14.3 Beta made the issue a little better, but there are definitely still some audio dropouts.

I'm not sure what you try next. I did watch the CPU percentage a bit more this week, and it did reach up to 50% a few times -- though I'm not sure that the dropouts correlated to those times.

Do you think lowering the encode quality to 2 might help? Or is there something else I should try?

Dom Bagnato Are you using any Bluetooth headsets or any Bluetooth audio devices at all?

If so, eliminate Bluetooth devices and see if that improves things. They're wondering if "Apple" headphones might be a factor along with other Bluetooth devices.

    • CraigS One person does use Apple's AirPods for his speaker and a Blue Yeti for his mic. Two other users use Apple's wired headphones with built-in mics that came standard with older phones (so 3.5mm jacks, not lightning).

I will ask the person who uses AirPods to try wired headphones this week. Could this be causing the issue even if the dropouts are across users (and not specific to that AirPod user)? The dropouts occur across all users at random moments.

Dom Bagnato We're wondering about some odd Bluetooth combination since we have no other customers reporting a similar issue. Thinking that even a Bluetooth monitoring combo might be a factor.

Shouldn't have any impact on Rendezvous where this issue is.

  • Thanks,  CraigS . Removing the Bluetooth AirPods from the equation did seem to help significantly. It may be completely solved, but I'm waiting for one more show to be sure. Here's the resulting episode:

Dom Bagnato Thanks for doing that. Seems Bluetooth is having an impact on Rendezous. Letting the developers know about this.

Confirming that you as host eliminated Bluetooth?
Developers would like to be sure of that.

    • CraigS No. I was never using Bluetooth. One of the remote guests was using AirPods for his own audio along with a Blue Yeti for his mic.
