Why can't I hide visibility of a nested, cropped clip?

I have a nested clip I'm using as a frame for other content.  Inside the nest there are two cropped clips, each is approx. 1/4 the screen width.  They are placed to the left and right of the screen to frame other content.

Now while I'm working on cutting up these clips a bit, I want to turn one of them off just to make the timeline move more quickly/smoothly.  But toggling visibility on either clip, does nothing.  Absolutely nothing.  The clips are just always visible no matter what.

I thought maybe it was due to time stretching or other effects but I have removed everything and made them completely virgin clips, just cropped, and I still can't hide either of them.  Why not?

  • Sigh... quit & relaunch Screenflow has fixed this issue.  I've seen many things fixed this way, was never the case when I used v7.  Only upgraded to v9 a few weeks ago and it seems to have a few bugs.

Jonathan van Clute It may be related to the macOS. Seems to have to reboot for some things to "take" on Big Sur.

  • Thanks.  So far in v9, basically any time anything stops working as it should, I save, quit, and relaunch and things get back to normal again.  Quite annoying as this never happened in v7 but I had to upgrade to maintain compatibility with a client.

Jonathan van Clute Perhaps you can show a screen recording of this happening.
      Is this Big Sur?

    • CraigS No, Mojave.  I finished the project finally today and it'll likely be a while before I have anything else with this level of complexity to do, but if it happens again I'll see what I can do to record it.

Jonathan van Clute Odd that it would be Mojave since that's been out for a long while. Make sure you're on 10.14.6 (last version) and ScreenFlow 9.0.7.

  • Yep on both counts.  I never upgrade OS or anything else unless I actually need to.  Been bit too many times and finally learned my lesson many years ago.  My iMac is still running Sierra and can't go any higher!  LOL

Jonathan van Clute Perhaps try rolling back to ScreenFlow 9.0.5 and see if it makes a difference. See Previous Versions at the top.

    • CraigS Thanks, maybe I'll try that if this comes up again in the future.  For now this project is in the can and I'll be going back to my usual very simple screencast edits going forward, which never have any issues as they are so basic.

Jonathan van Clute If you can reproduce this, please do a screen recording showing that hide visibility isn't working.
