Wirecast 10 Restream

Figured I would test out the restream feature, but running into a roadblock. It is my understanding that you send 1 set of entry points and with another stream configured the cloud will encode to another entry point. Is that correct?

I am currently trying this with 2 different sets of entry points to Akamai. About 15-25 seconds after I hit stream I get the 2 images attached to this thread.

I see the cloud icon appear next to the stats. Is that supposed to be pressed? Either way I can't seem to get this cooking.

Each destination would be setup in Wirecast. You would enable Restream for each. That makes the cloud icon appear. In Telestream Cloud Settings you would slect one fo two encoder settings.

Make sure you set up a Telestream Cloud account within Wirecast which should then allocate 5000 trial minutes.

  • We are not passing the the Adobe FMLE/publisher authentication to Akamai when using Wirecast Cloud. This will theoretically affect any destination which uses this. I've filed this as a bug for engineering to look at.

  • Are we really only able to restream for a certain number of seconds during this Beta test?

  • CraigS Craig, so are you saying I can re-stream to multiple sites for as long as I want?

  • CraigS I think I just didn't understand.  I have 5000 minutes and I can run as long as I want in one sitting until they run out.  When are we able to purchase additional if we want?

    Thanks

  • Alan Weinstein there's no limit per use. You could go for hours as long as you have minutes left. There will be a monthly allotment by subscription purchase when finally released. Specifics will be released about that in the near future.

  • So from past experience you can't Facebook stream and anywhere else at the same time, so we are using the RTMP for Facebook, the RTMP for YouTube, no problem, but I also want to restream to Periscope and Twitch.  On those do I just select those from the list and authorize, and will have no issue restreaming to all?  Thanks in advance.

  • Craig not sure if this is the right place to ask the following question since it now appears the version 10 is official.  From the email:

We ask that you download the latest version of Wirecast 10 to limit the impact of these Facebook restrictions. Wirecast 9 will work only to Pages; Groups and Profiles will no longer be able to live stream to Facebook Live, this includes setting Place.

Note: Streaming to live events has been permanently deprecated by Facebook.

So I assume the versions 10 I had been testing has been replaced with the new v version which I installed tonight.  My question is in regards to using RTMP and restreaming.  How is restreaming affected in light of this -   Facebook will continue to support unencrypted RTMP encoded streams for the short-term; however, they have also announced plans to discontinue RTMP in favor of encrypted RTMPS.

    Thanks

  • Alan Weinstein Keep in mind that our messaging is to the general public, not specific to those beta testing.

Now that 10 has been released that is the version you should be using. Updates to code are made throughout the beta process based on input and may also include changing circumstances on Facebook which includes changes to the API. Sorry but I can't say any more than that.

Keep in mind that we control our restream server and we are aware of the changes Facebook is making. As long as we do our work on our end (and we will/are) based on information Facebook provides to developers, you'll be able to use the restream feature.
