iOS recording on Mac OS 10.15.6 and iOS 13.2 iPad

My iPad shows up in Image Capture app so I know the Mac sees it and it's trusted, but it will not show up in Screenflow 9.

Any ideas?

  • If you launch Quicktime, File -> New -> Movie Recording, then click the small dropdown next to the Record button, does your iPad show in the list of options?

Yes, generally if Quicktime sees it as Chris describes, ScreenFlow will see it since we're using the macOS built-in technology.

  • I'm having the same problem. Zoom screen share works as does Quicktime, but Screenflow does not record the iPhone screen.

I'd like to help but I'm going to need a more detailed explanation. I'm not sure what Zoom screen share has to do with iPhones and because of that it's clear what you're referring to in Quicktime.

If you'd like help you must describe in a way we can test the workflow.
If you read and understood the previous posts if Quicktime sees the iPhone then ScreenFlow will. They use the same technology.

  • I apologize, Craig, for not following the conventions!😉

I'm using the latest version of ScreenFlow (9.0.7 (31680) running on the latest MacOs (Version 14.0.3 (16610.4.3.1.7). My monitor is a QHD, but I'm only recording my iPhone XS Max. I have a Blue Yeti microphone that I'm using to do the audio, although I doubt that is relevant. I also have a second monitor, 1920 x 1080, but, again, I'm not recording either monitor. The iPhone is connected with a lightning cable to a hub attached to my Mac Mini.

QuickTime and Zoom both use the Mac technology to mirror/record the iPhone screen, which, as you say and I understand, is also the case with ScreenFlow. Both QT and Zoom capture the screen from the iPhone, but ScreenFlow frequently does not. When I end the recording, it will post the audio but there is no video.

It will sometimes work if I reboot the Mac--but only for a time.

I suspect that the problem lies here: I get frequent "Trust this Computer" prompts when the recording is going on, and I have to enter my  passcode. I can edit these interruptions out, but it does suggest to me (I was a programmer and software designer) that, for some reason, the video capture is failing because of iPhone "trust this computer" issues is interfering with the video capture.

I have searched for solutions to the "trust this computer" problem without much satisfaction, and I'd appreciate any suggestions that you may have. And I had hoped that someone on the forum might have other insight on how to deal with these issues.

If you need further information, please let me know and I'll supply it if I can.

Thank you for any help you can provide!

Sorry but I'm not sure what you're referring to. The latest macOS is 11.2.3
    The latest iOS is 14.4.1

That would be an IOS, macOS related issue. ScreenFlow itself doesn't play a role in that.

Sorry but this isn't clear to me. Can you select your iPhone in Configure Recording?

Do not connect your iPhone to a hub. Test a direct connection.
