Track Targeting - Paste clip to a specific track

When I copy-and-paste a clip, it pastes to (seemlingly) whatever track it wants. I have to drag it into the spot where I really want it.

Is there a way to paste it into a specific track at the playhead?

  • I'd have to see what you're doing since it doesn't sound like standard behavior. Generally, it would paste to the first available track based on the scrubber.

  • Is how is "first available" defined? Bottom-up? Sometimes that's nestled down into a mess of clips. It would be great to be able to put it exactly where I want it - like, right-click/paste directly into a track, rather than let it choose.

  • Matt Steinruck Generally it's the bottom-most track.
If you want specific track targeting that would be an interesting feature request. Certainly, fill out the ScreenFlow Feature Request Form and give a use case example as the developers like to hear about those.

  • I have this same issue. I just want it to paste onto the track I've clicked on, or the one I copied the media asset from.

Mark Heaps Fill out the above form to make the request and when you get a case number do post it here so I can track.

Mark Heaps Thanks for doing that. I'll post an investigation reference when I get one.

  • Yes! Coming from years of working in DAWs this behavior is really irritating. It's so much easier to stay organized if the clips would dropping into the tracks I direct them to.

John Hinchey Make sure you fill out the previously posted feature request form and ask for track targeting. The developers may be considering this so they're looking at user interest.

John Hinchey I put this up for a vote so please do vote for it as well.

  • If I’m editing on a smaller screen (15”), this random placement really impairs the workflow. Not so much of a problem finding the clip on the iMac 27, however, still adds another step if I want to move the clip to a specific track. In that vein, would be welcomed if I could simply click on the specific track where I want the clip to be placed, then voila!.

  • Love ScreenFlow and use it much more than Premiere these days. Track targeting would really speed up the editing process. When adding video, music, graphics, and/or annotations all seem to randomly select or add the track they go to.

I voted above and hope to see this feature soon.
