Matt Steinruck Generally it's the bottom-most track.
If you want specific track targeting that would be an interesting feature request. Certainly, fill out the ScreenFlow Feature Request Form and give a use case example as the developers like to hear about those. -
If I’m editing on a smaller screen (15”), this random placement really impairs the workflow. Not so much of a problem finding the clip on the iMac 27, however, still adds another step if I want to move the clip to a specific track. In that vein, would be welcomed if I could simply click on the specific track where I want the clip to be placed, then voila!.

Do I need to file a separate support ticket for that, or is it possible to change the nature of the support issue to "bug"?Yes and with details about the timeline and steps to reproduce. Sometimes users see things as unpredictable but there are patterns (sometimes deliberate by the developers).

As a followup on this - I got an answer back from the support team, where they acknowledged this issue, but said that with the technology of their current "platform" (by which I suppose they mean the framework or engine they have built Screenflow on) that they cannot fix it.
That's a bummer, to have such a basic expectation of a non-linear editor be broken in this way.
