AMD Radeon Encoding

While WC 10 wasn't seeing my Radeon RX Vega card, it is good to see that 11 indeed does for video adapter, however the encoder is still not available. Looking at other installed software video tools, there is an "H264/AVC Encoder (AMD Advanced Media Framework)" option that is not available within Wirecast. Wirecast only shows x264 and Intel QuickSync. While they work, the AMD would be far more efficient as it's the GPU of the device.

  • I should mention:

    Dell XPS 9575 w/1080 touchscreen
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8705G CPU @ 3.10GHz, 3096 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
Radeon RX Vega M GL Graphics

Side note to everybody... DON'T BUY DELL! It's been a nightmare so far.

  • Did you manage to get a fix? It will be interesting that the new MacBooks are using the Radeon Pro Vega 20 - hopefully WC 11 will be able to utilise them for encoding out. CraigS  - thoughts?

  • Jamie Stevenson I haven't checked in the latest build but will update later today when I have an answer for you. It may have been partially on Dell as this is a TERRIBLE machine. Never buy Dells, even their top end flagship products are bad.

  • Jamie Stevenson I have an iMac Pro who's Xeon processors don't have the assistive encoding features the "i" processors have. It does have the Vega 64 card. Wirecast 11 certainly offers Apple H.264. It seems the OS is handling that so Wirecast recognizes what the OS offers.

The new MBP do have "i" processors so I'm not sure the OS will hand off the task as recognized by Wirecast. Wirecast itself doesn't offer a way to chose between the two.

If you'd like to make the feature request do post in the public forum since Wirecast 11 is a released software. Of course with that perhaps a similar control could be investigated for Windows. Wirecast Windows certainly allows you to chose between QuickSync (i processor) and NVENC (NVIDIA GPU assisted encoding).
