No way to edit text in a Text Shot

Once you create a text shot, there appears to be no way to edit that text. Seemingly one is forced to delete that text shot and create a a completely new one (?) which, if true, is functionally quite absurd.

Am seriously considering going back to WC6

  • Pesi Unwalla Text editing is possible through the Properties panel (6th tab of Shot Editor, circle icon with 3 dots). Try double-clicking the Text Shot and selecting the Properties tab :)

  • Thanks Rory - Doesn't work in my case (don't see the box with the text to edit) - probably because WC keeps crashing when I try to edit any text or title! :-)

I've asked support for a resolution.

  • Try reseting preferences.
Wirecast Help > Send Support Information and when the box opens, click on Reset Preferences in the lower left.

  • Did that and opened a new document but still crashes. Support has been notified of the problem.

  • Try booting the computer into Safe Mode and then back to Normal again.

To start Windows in safe mode or get to other startup settings:

    1. Select the Start button, then choose Settings.
    2. Select Update & security > Recovery.
    3. Under Advanced startup select Restart now.
    4. After your PC restarts to the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
    5. After your PC restarts, select a startup setting by pressing the corresponding number.
    6. F4 should be Safe mode.
    7. Reboot the computer back to normal
    8. Test Wirecast again
  • Tried it with no success.

However, I installed WC7 on an older machine and to my surprise it worked OK with no crash! I have sent a saved report from that machine to support to compare with the crash report from my main system - hopefully they can come up with a fix I can use.

  • Make sure you request Create support ticket when you send in report otherwise they can't contact you to troubleshoot.

  • I already did and they say they are working on it...

  • Post any updates they send you, to the forum.

  • I'm having the same issue with Wirecast crashing when I try to edit my text layer.  After the program closes I can't get it to launch again without a full restart of the cpu.

  • Paul - please do send a support request with the crash report - the more people who come across this issue, the better they will be able to diagnose the issue I'm sure.

Btw - I was told you don't have to reboot the system to restart WC. Just go Ctrl-Alt-Del into the Task Manager and shut down Wirecast from there - apparently it is still running in the background. Once it is shut down it will restart.

  • I'm currently doing a stream but I plan to recreate the crash for a report afterwards.  Thanks for the Task Manager tip!

  • Since most people aren't experiencing the issue, filling out the support form will help us follow up to see what the common elements are for those having this issue. Use Wirecast > Help > Send Support Information and enable Create Ticket immediately after the crash.

  • having this same problem

  • CraigS I'm having the same problem instead of the ability to edit the text i see this blank area where text is usually edited. says changes to these settings will effect all shots containing this source. has anyone found a fix?

  • Kimberly Please make sure you're using Wirecast 11.1.1 on macOS 10.13.6 or higher. Consider that no one has posted to this thread in two years it may have been resolved in more recent Wirecast OS combinations.

  • CraigS hi thanks for responding but I checked and searched for others having this issue with text edits for the new wirecast update and this is the most relevant post I could find for what I’m experiencing. I will make sure my Mac OS is up to date and get back with you to let you know if that fixed the edit ability. But I think I’m up to date.

  • Kimberly Generally this is one symptom of Wirecast running on an incompatible OS. Please confirm and post screenshots of version numbers. Consider that you haven't found other relevant posts. Nothing in two years.

  • Hi,

I have an old mac pro tower (mid 2010) which probably aloud me to update the OS to the one you described, but I haven't done it yet since I need to finish some jobs before I try. So what you are saying is that I can't edit text layer in my Wirecast 12.2, because I run an old OS? Actually i'm not even sure that I can use the newest one, Mojave, and then I cant use versions from Wirecast later than this, version 12.... Do You have any work arounds?

    Best wishes

  • Mark Hildebrandt Wirecast 12.2 requires High Sierra. If you can't update the OS you'd have to roll back to an earlier version of Wirecast.

  • CraigS ,OK... but it runs on my 10.11.6...... but it runs on my 10.11.6... though with the limit I mentioned. I need to upgrade if possible.... but if not I must accept the circumstances I guess.

  • Mark Hildebrandt That's a known OS compatibility issue. Compatibility isn't always all or nothing. It's when some features may break because of changes in the OS. Newer macOS handle things a bit differently and that's what we target with newer versions of Wirecast.
