WC8 question using hybrid NDI/SDI Sources

I have been using a pair of Panasonic HE130 PTZ cameras with WC for the past year via SDI inputs.

I recently upgraded the cameras with NDI-HX licenses. I like the easy of config, but the image quality over NDI is not great.

My question is this: If I construct a shot using an NDI camera (lets call it camera 1) stacked on top of the same camera (#1)  coming in via SDI, would the tally work via NDI with video from the SDI?

I can certainly test this, but wondering if anyone has done so already.

Hmm, this is concerning. Can you provide screenshots?
Have you tested with Newtek NDI Monitor?

  • So after a quick test I can answer both my questions :-)

One, image quality appears to be similar between SDI and NDI, although there is some smoothing I can see. My initial thought was compression noise in my test, but that seems to be unrelated to NDI.

And yes, I can use NDI for tally and use the SDI path for picture if I so desire, by adding SDI layer to the corresponding NDI source.
