  • Hello,

I am having the same problem as the previous individuals who posted. I can import a .mov file just fine, but when I go to export it, the audio plays, but the video is black. I just upgraded to 7.0 when my version 6.0 worked just fine except for this .mov problem that I have recently encountered. The upgrade still has the same problem. Can you please advise how to get around this/fix this issue?

    Thank you,

    Brian

brian haig The current version of ScreenFlow is 7.3 so please update and test again. Please describe the source of the .mov file. Also open the .mov file in Quicktime Player and use Windows > Show Movie Inspector and post what it says next to Format:.

  • Hi Craig,

The source of the .mov files is an animation source. I just learned the from the video graphic designer who made the intro bumper. Does animation .mov video files  not export in the updated Screenflow? I just bought the newest version of Screenflow yesterday and my .mov files wasn’t exporting properly. The video component was black.  I will post what Quicktime Player says this evening

Thanks for your input so far,

    Brian

Mov is a container which can contain any number of codecs. Please do follow my instructions regarding Quicktime Player.

  • Hi Craig,

I ran the intro bumper as you said using Quicktime Player and in the windows finder, the format says the following: H.264, 1920x1080, AAC, 48000Hz, Stereo (L R).

Also, if this helps, it also says: FPS 29.97 and Data size 56.1 MB with data rate at 74.73 Mbit/s.

I still am getting a black video playing.  My videographer says the video codec is animation and is going to send me the video in another format. However, wondering if I can get the current video playing somehow without the workaround of my videographer changing the video format.

    Your input is appreciated.

brian haig H.264 would not be Animation so there's some discrepancy here. Apple did have a legacy Animation codec which Quicktime Player would convert with a progress bar. H.264 files play in ScreenFlow 7.3 although some webinar recordings have presented a challenge.  Perhaps you can link to the file so I can have a look at it.

brian haig You should be able to attach files here in the forum (paper clip icon) otherwise you can use DropBox or GoogleDrive if it's a large file.

  • Hi Craig,

My video consultant gave me 6 different versions of this file. Attached is one version and none of the versions work, unbelievably. The files all play normally using QuickTime Player. Can you give me insight on this? I really want to export this file using Screenflow.

    Thanks for your input,

    Brian

brian haig Your file imports into ScreenFlow 7.3, plays with video, exports with video just fine.
This is the ScreenFlow 7.3 exported file.

I'll get right on it, because I have upgraded to the newest version of Screenflow, and I can't seem to export the file and get the video component without a black screen. I'm sure it is just something simple that I have overlooked. Thanks for your help in this matter. --Brian

brian haig With ScreenFlow 7.3 if you can play the file on the timeline it should export without issue. In earlier versions of 7 there was an issue with some GPU that was fixed with 7.3 which is why I ask you confirm that you're on 7.3.

  • Hi Craig,

Based on what I learned in this program, I did everything recommended. However, whenever I exported I noticed that the Screenflow reverted back to my old version which I had right next to my new version on the docket icon list using with my Apple computer. I just deleted the old version of my Screenflow from the docket icon and it didn't revert back anymore, and my file exported okay this time using the upgraded 7.3 Screenflow. Finally figured this out--thanks for your help!

  • I am also have the same issue with .mov files.

The file I am trying to import was originally from a Panasonic camcorder that was imported to iMovie.

This is the codec according to finder... Apple Intermediate Codec, Linear PCM, Timecode

Krsnendu Knight That codec may be a "legacy" codec. You don't include any technical information but my guess is that you exported it from an older version of iMovie. Panasonic cameras don't record in that codec. iMovie used to convert to that codec but that hasn't been the case for some time. I'd need to know details to make recommendations. The current version of ScreenFlow is 7.3.1 and the current version of macOS is 10.13.6. Please provide versions of all software involved and I can then make recommendations.

  • There is a snappy 1 minute video showing how to convert the MOV file to mp4 in iMovie. Worked like a charm for me and I was able to import and edit.
