Screenflow 8 activation error

I have upgraded to Screenflow 8 but when I try to activate with the serial number sent to me, I get an error:

"Unable to activate serial number

"The operation could not be completed after an error occurred with the licensing server. The error code returned was -3005. Please try again"

How can I fix this, please

    There may have been a problem server side. Have you tried again today? If it still doesn't work we do it on our end.

  • CraigS Thank you. I also received a message about remote activation. In the end I decided to install it to my laptop and I had no problem with activation.

  • I'm having the same/similar issue. I tried to do some video edits today on V7, and Screenflow magically de-activated itself. I go find my serial number. Type it in and I get the same activation error, but code -3999. So I go and upgrade to V8, and still no luck. Same error message.

    Then it gets worse! I fill out the ScreenFlow Support Form, and I get a message that says "Unsupported Software Version", not matter what browser I use.

    I'm very disappointed guys. Every day this doesn't work, I lose hundreds of dollars of work. Why can't the application just STAY activated when you activate the first time? This isn't the first time I've had to type in my serial number again to re-activate.

  • I am also having this problem. I paid for screenflow and this has always worked before, something is broken today.

    I also submitted a support inquiry but I got an error message.

  • This is ridiculous. The software requires an authentication every time it starts up, apparently on cut-rate servers that have a tendency to go out (this has happened at least 2x over the past month). And then they only offer support from 9-5 on M-F. So they deactivate their flagship product across the entire consumer base. 

    I've bought this product for years, but when I see a solution pivot from "new features and bug fixes" to "devoting all efforts to revenue collection," it's time to move on. Going to look into alternatives.

  • Same here... Screenflow 6 deactivated itself, so I tried upgrading to Screenflow 8, and it won't activate.  -3999 error.  They've been bugging me for months to upgrade, and now when I do try to upgrade I get this nonsense.

    I am also having the same issue and get "Thank you for downloading and evaluating ScreenFlow..." (see screenshot) and I have owned 7.3.1 and all other versions for years. Not impressed at all!

    I also submitted a support inquiry but I got the same error message others are getting.

  • It seems I'm not alone. Yesterday it was ok, now it doesn't work.

    I'm facing same errors. Tried support page to no avail.

    I hope they can correct this asap.

  • Jo-Ann Chinn  - Hi Jo-Ann, I'm getting exactly the same issue as you. I paid $129 and upgrade to v8 a month back and all was going well. But today it now says I'm on the DEMO version again and its exporting the project I'm working on with the DEMO watermark. I've got to get it to a client tomorrow so I'm really fed up. It might be server issue then, if everyone else is getting the same?

  • David Blundell Hi David... seeing how different versions are affected and how even the support site doesn't work it seems like a major server error. 

    I have switched over to my backup program today which I actually prefer in many ways and which is much cheaper... MUCH... and I've not had a single problem in the time I've owned it (unlike with Screenflow!!) and I can even import videos directly from Zoom video conference program which I can't with Screenflow!

  • Joshua Carney I finally got it to work by purchasing it from the Mac App Store for Full Price AGAIN at $129.00. So today I've spent $168 just to get by because of some server error on your end. It seems very dumb that if I purchase the upgrade directly from your site that it will not work, but if I purchase a new license from the App Store it works perfectly. Please give me a refund for my $39, because I will not be using that method again.

    I am SO irritated right now, it's not even funny. I purchased SF in September (last month!), followed instructions to DL, install, and make sure my key was activated - went to use it today to record a video series, and it tells me I need to upgrade to 8.1, but it needs to be purchased otherwise watermark (never mentions cost of upgrade) - I tried purchasing, error message came up to say action could not be done. Uninstalled SF and reinstalled 8 from the email that originally was sent to me .. tried to activate my key and keep getting error message of -3999 Unable To Activate - due to server. I CANNOT use the version I paid for as every  video I make now has a watermark - I can't purchase the upgrade, and it won't activate my key! I followed help forum to reset key, went through all the steps, and it says it was deactivated and reactivated just fine ... I go to put it in, and it gives me same error message. I'm deadlocked here and cannot use this software! That I JUST bought! Is this a joke? When and how will this be fixed? If this is going to continue to be a problem, how do I get a full refund? I'm really ticked off right now, I have work projects that need to be done under deadline.

    Joshua Carney what did you purchase from the Mac App store? Screenflow?? I bought mine right from their actual website. Why does it work from App store but not from their website?

  • Jo-Ann Chinn  - Thanks and nice idea but I've got the finished client product on Screenflow and just have to export it but of course it puts the DEMO watermark in whenever I try to export, even though I paid full price for Screenflow v8. So frustrating . . .
