Does Video Display Rate affect dropped frames?

I decided to lower my "Video Display Rate" in preferences but now I'm getting dropped frames that equal the difference between the streaming FPS (30) and the Video Display Rate (24). I'm seeing exactly 6 FPS dropped now. Is this a coincidence or am I misunderstanding the setting. I thought the Video Display Rate only affected the display in the software, not the streaming.

I only lowered it from 30 because I read somewhere that it might lower CPU usage. My CPU usage is typically around 15 - 30% and I'm not seeing any lower usage after making this change so I'll change it back. I'm just curious.

  • The Video Display Rate should match the frame rate of our output encoder. Ideally that should match your input source frame rate as well. It impacts internal processing which would impact encoding.
