Wirecast 14 Beta not using my cpu efficiently

Hi, so I’ve been using all the betas of the new Wirecast (14) for weeks, the last beta definitely is an improvement and the move to metal in Mac OS is noticeable, however I’m worried about the software not using my cpu and graphics power efficiently...

i have a brand new Mac Pro (2020) with 16 cores and the W5700X and I stream my PS4  to twitch at 1080 60 slow x264, I use a magewell capture card USB and webcam and some overlays, nothing to crazy, the problem is this, while I’m able to stream in x264 medium without dropping any frames, as soon as I switch to slow x264 I loose about 60 frames per hour and after an hour twitch gives me an error from my part (wirecast) so I thought, “ok maybe medium x264 is my ceiling... but then... I try my exact same setup in OBS, and I mean EXACT same setup and guess what... flawless x264 Slow without a single frame drop and no error from the servers of twitch... so obviously my computer was powerful enough to do it. In OBS the maximum of cpu usage was 45% and the strange part is that in wirecast the maximum was even lower, around 35%... and the drop frames were so weird... so got me thinking about the efficiently of wirecast in my setup... I love wirecast, the ui and ux is amazing I don’t want to stop using it, OBS is ugly as hell but that software never dropped a single frame in my setup while wirecast did it...

and FYI, i tested wirecast 13, the last stable release and it was even worse, the best performance I’ve got is from the latest beta and it’s not enough, and it’s weird that with wirecast my stream to twitch got an error after an hour and with obs no. The exact same setup.

hope next beta of release fixes this.

  • Over on the Windows 10 side, v14 Beta (1), 3 streams (YT, FB, Periscope/Twitter), 720p, and CPU from 45 to 55%. A few dropped frames in a 2 hour show.

7 year old i7 with 16 GB RAM, NVidia 670 graphics card.

Gary Pearce That's impressive. Speaks to the longevity and viability of a good computer. Thanks for testing.

  • You need to specify how are you streaming and with what assets? i can assure that a single 1080 60fps x264 slow with high quality sources are way more intense than those.

  • UPDATE:

Hi, so a quick update, i created a new document from scratch in Wirecast and updated the firmware of my capture card, no more error in Twitch and this time i only dropped 8 frames in the same settings, so definitely an improvement, i will be doing more test and notify.

    Thanks for the help!
