Audio not playing back in Screenflow 10

Hi,

Imported audio files are not playing in Screenflow. They do play in iTunes, so they are not the problem. I tried recording a track directly into Screenflow and, again, no sound emerges. The microphone is definitely working (tested using PowerPoint). I've tried rebooting, checked privacy settings, etc. but no joy...

All advice gratefully received!

    I'd like to help but there are not enough details.
    Please confirm that you are on ScreenFlow 10.0.5
    Please list macOS and Mac model including CPU type.
    It's not clear if this is a recording or playback issue. You state playback and describe recording since you mention imported files, then a Microphone.

    Please describe the issue so that we could reproduce with matching computer, versions, workflow. Sorry but with that information I could have given you an answer or troubleshooting techniques with this post.

      thanks for your response!

      it is Screenflow 10.0.5 and I am using an iMac,  with Apple M1 chip and Monterey 12.3.1. Hope that is clear enough about the technology.

      i have tried to import some audio files to add to some video footage I have. The audio files are definitely audible in other programs (e.g. IMovie) and when imported I can see the audio wave lines, but they do not play back, I.e are silent.

      i then tried to add a narration track to check whether that worked and, again, there was no sound playing back.

      Frank Monaghan Do you see audio meters moving in ScreenFlow?
      If so then it may be a monitoring issue.

    • Hello CraigS , I see the monitors but no sound plays. It plays when scrubbing through the clip (these are both video clips with audio and plain audio clips) or it plays initially when first added to the project but then stops playing. The only solution I have is to exit screenflow and start again and then it works.

      Any other ideas welcome.

    What do you know, it’s spontaneously started working again!

      I think another user had a similar experience with audio monitoring.  Seems the macOS "self repairs" the monitoring issue.

     Check you audio out settings in System Preferences Sound. Avoid monitoring with Bluetooth headsets, airpods or equivalent. Generally, Bluetooth with both mics and headphones may confuse the system. Test by monitoring using only built in speakers.

    As long as the meters move you have sound and the issue is monitoring settings.

  • Thanks, Craig, I didn't know that Bluetooth headsets didn't work. I wasn't using them as a mic but was using Airpods to monitor the video sound.

      Dale Williams The problem may happen if the Bluetooth headset has a built-in mic. Airpods do have mics built-in.
