Recording Error when using Zoom

I've recently been running into an issue where, I'll be recording a Zoom lecture as normal using Screenflow, and then, when I hit stop recording, an error message comes up that says the following:

Recording Error. Due to an internal error, the recording has unexpectedly terminated. Please try making your recording again, and if problems persist, contact us for technical support.
lib++abi: terminating with uncaught exception of type std::__1::system_error: mutex lock failed: Invalid argument ###

This seems to always happen when I am trying to record a Zoom lecture with other people in it (I am not the host). I ensure that Telestream is selected both for the Zoom audio and for my computer's audio when I record. I have tested recording the screen with a Zoom session in place just on my own account, all by myself (so no one else is in the meeting with me), and everything seems to work fine, but as soon as a second account joins in the meeting I get the error message above after I stop recording.

I am on a MacBook, updated to macOS Big Sur 11.6, and my Screenflow version is 10.0.2 If any other info is needed from me please let me know (not overly computer-savvy but I'll try my best...)

Has anyone else been experiencing similar issues, and found a fix to this? It's incredibly frustrating, and I have no idea what to do. Any help or advice would be HUGELY appreciated!

The current version is 10.0.3. Please update and test again.
Please do consider leaving ScreenFlow Preferences General "Check for ScreenFlow updates at launch" enables as updates include fixes.

Also, make sure you have the current version of Zoom. If you are on an M1 MBP make sure you've installed the Apple Silicon and not the Intel version of Zoom.

Do you mean another guest besides yourself?
Can you test to confirm this is the case?
I'm wondering if there's something about Zoom and Security that prevents a guest from being recorded without their permission.

I just lost a recording of a training session I gave over Google Meet. :( I'm running Screenflow 10.0.3.

    Here's the error:

Worth noting that I was using mmhmm as a virtual camera device for the meeting – but a subsequent test with mmhmm did not result in the same error, so that detail may or may not be relevant.

Dan B Sorry to hear that. Please read our troubleshooting for internal error when recording.

  • Has this been addressed? I've already lost 3 important recordings to this error. I have the .scc files but I cannot open them. Please advise. (BTW, I've already opened a support case and the instructions they sent me did not work). I've tried opening them with ScreenFlow 9 but they don't work.

Have you used our .scc recording recovery feature?

And see our troubleshooting I linked to. If there's a third-party product conflict it could be the cause.

  • I opened a support case and they are aware of the issue and seemingly working to solve it. In the meantime, they suggested this workaround to avoid losing the recording: once you finish your Zoom session, end it and close Zoom before stopping the Screenflow recording. I’m going to test this tomorrow during a call I intend to record and report back.

  • I just finished my recording and I can confirm that if you end the Zoom session and close the software first, and then stop the Screenflow recording, it does not crash and the recording is done properly.
