Rendezvous guests see my video feed really bad

Hello, my problem is related to Rendezvous: my guest (usually just one) always see my video feed really bad, very blurry.
The problem is not related specifically to a guest because i invited many guests that connected with me with different devices, different browsers, different internet
connections and all had the same issue.

The specifications of the host pc with Wirecast Studio v.13.0.2 (65.82cedbb5):
-Windows 10 Pro 64 bit, version 1809, build 17763.1039
-CPU Intel Core i5-8400
-RAM 16GB DDR4
-SSD M2 250GB
-Speedtest: 5 ms Ping, 59.06 Mbps Download, 57.94 Mbps Upload

A guest user, for exemple, use instead Chrome v.80 on a MacBook Air, the Speedtest: 55 ms Ping, 9.04 Mbps Download, 25.73 Mbps Upload.

As you can see in the attached video (where there is also a second guest, that use an Android Smartphone and the Chrome browser), from the host computer all is perfect.
The video quality of the local camera (the one with the library as a background) and the camera of two remote guests (the scene with the bottle of water from a guest that
use the Macbook mentioned before and the scene with a keyboard from the guest that use a smartphone) are very good.
Also the two remote guests see the camera of the other very good, but together see their own image from the host, and the host itself, really bad.

As i wrote before, this problem it's not related to a specific guest, guests with more powerful internet connection and different devices had the same problem.
And I would also like to point out that this problem has been happening for several months now.
The only thing that never changed it's the host pc, so i think that the problem it's related on it.

Thanks to all for the help!

James Redmond and if you're having quality based issues with Rendezvous please fill out the previously posted support form. We need to gather to correlated information since it doesn't affect everyone.

I understand they use http://www.gnuralnet.com - not Skype. It is not a cheap solution, but it appears to be best of breed.

WebRTC based and I believe there's a $199/yr option vs $499 purchase. One month free trial. It looks to be great if you're doing a regular "call-in" type show.

  • Thanks for the info Greg and Craig.  I will look into it.  Their website is dated 2016 and the last blog was Oct. 2016.  Hopefully it is still a viable option.   James

  • CraigS I've opened a new ticket with the support form (Case 00710216) but seems that the support agent will behave like other support agent in the previous ticket that i opened months ago (Case 00659234).

Both say they passed the information to the engineers that will investigate and then no more answers.

If sometime ask for an update, the answer it's that there isn't new update from engineers.

It's absurd to advertise a third party solution rather than solve the current problem...

Yes, the engineers are certainly working on it.

I'd disagree. Third-party integration allows flexibility. There are reasons people use Skype or Zoom or Rendezvous (and it does work for many) as each has advantages and challenges. A streaming program shouldn't limit options.

Greg Kuhnert  here is a great idea. Why doesn’t Telestream buy a copy of VMix and backwards engineer the VMix Call or any other parts NOT working on Wirecast. Just a thought from a user of both platforms.

Lloyd Mendenhall Our developers are familiar with vMix and OBS for that matter. Taking a different development path.
In some respects in reminds me of people trying to compare Final Cut Pro 7 with Final Cut Pro X and stating a feature is "missing." The paths are different.

Lloyd Mendenhall Developed sometimes requires a set of linear steps when rebuilding things. The developers are aware of the issues and the changes will make things much improved. Patchwork "fixes" aren't the solution. You'll see the improvements in the upcoming releases.

  • I have been seeing this same issue on my system.  The producers I'm working with, along with external presenters, are very uneasy about the quality they see in the Rendezvous window when I am sharing the system output, even though I reassure them that the issue is only in the rendezvous window, not in the actual stream.

Thanks for addressing this.  I look forward to hearing the solution!

A humble thought or two here.

Firstly, the "heated debate" here has brought to the surface a problem. We can all see how many people were impacted by this problem. We can see how many people are unhappy. Yet until the last few days, it was not a high priority.

This is symptomatic of the bigger problem than the technology in my opinion. This is precisely why Lynn Elliott that I've asked for uservoice or similar. I guarantee you, this type of solution would help to get those things that are most important to your user community in your radar, without so much of this "undercurrent" of disgruntled users.

And again, I know you're trying. I know Sandy and Craig are trying as well. I get it. But I really think it's time to bite the bullet, and find a good way to deal with the undercurrent of discontent. I mean no disrespect. I love what the product could be. This one change I think could be the most positive change for Telestream.

    Regards,

    Greg

  • James Redmond I'm having the exact same issue. The live output going to Castr is great but the guests get really bad video from rendezvous-- or no video at all. It sometimes freezes and the guests think the livestream is down. What's happening?

  • I am one week into using wirecast, bought specifically because of how easy it seemed to being on several guests. I am having the same exact problem, very disappointing. Does anyone have any experience with other software that may be a better option for hosting shows with 3-5 guests?

    Thank you,
