Rendezvous guests see my video feed really bad

Hello, my problem is related to Rendezvous: my guest (usually just one) always see my video feed really bad, very blurry.
The problem is not related specifically to a guest because i invited many guests that connected with me with different devices, different browsers, different internet
connections and all had the same issue.

The specifications of the host pc with Wirecast Studio v.13.0.2 (65.82cedbb5):
-Windows 10 Pro 64 bit, version 1809, build 17763.1039
-CPU Intel Core i5-8400
-RAM 16GB DDR4
-SSD M2 250GB
-Speedtest: 5 ms Ping, 59.06 Mbps Download, 57.94 Mbps Upload

A guest user, for exemple, use instead Chrome v.80 on a MacBook Air, the Speedtest: 55 ms Ping, 9.04 Mbps Download, 25.73 Mbps Upload.

As you can see in the attached video (where there is also a second guest, that use an Android Smartphone and the Chrome browser), from the host computer all is perfect.
The video quality of the local camera (the one with the library as a background) and the camera of two remote guests (the scene with the bottle of water from a guest that
use the Macbook mentioned before and the scene with a keyboard from the guest that use a smartphone) are very good.
Also the two remote guests see the camera of the other very good, but together see their own image from the host, and the host itself, really bad.

As i wrote before, this problem it's not related to a specific guest, guests with more powerful internet connection and different devices had the same problem.
And I would also like to point out that this problem has been happening for several months now.
The only thing that never changed it's the host pc, so i think that the problem it's related on it.

Thanks to all for the help!

other software that may be a better option for hosting shows with 3-5 guests?

     Skype NDI into Wirecast.

Again you may want to test our beta as we may have improved quality.

  • CraigS thanks, I tried the beta and it worked better. I am new to this so pardon my naivety, but why would I need to use another program like Skype when my understanding was the Wirecast was designed to have guests and is the best and somewhat expensive program to use for that purpose?

    Thanks

Sometimes you may work with people who may have requirements using those tools (Skype and Zoom for example) but unless you have a specific need Rendezvous is easier since guests only need a webcam and compatible browser without having to create accounts or learn a specific program.

  • Simon Clarke Hi Simon, thank you.

I've tried Rendezvous beta with 2 local pc and an Android device and the situation appears much better, now all the guests see a much better video feed from the host pc.

I will have the opportunity to test it soon even with "real guests".

  • Same here, bought it to stream to Linkedin LIVE, especially in these rough times in healthcare. Mostly whenever i use Rendez Vous for Linkedin LIve it 'breaks" (sometimes also even before in use Rendez Vous. Craig is on it. Will try public beta as well. Now using Streamyard to have a broadcast, missing all the great features I've bought Wirecast for. All the preparations i made in it, are unusable to me now)  To mee seems Rendez vous plays a central role in it, so I also will try to use zoom as an  input.

  • Just about to buy for this functionality. And finding that the Guest Monitor terrible quality. Testing it with Multiple not local people everyone on good quality fibre and high computers.

I would guess that Wirecast servers that process this aren't holding up. As it is occasionally ok. Then goes back to terrible again.

Weighing up this Vmix, Zoom remixed in OBS, and a Skype VS. I thought Wirecast might be the middle ground solution. Not so sure right now.

  • david harrison I would give the latest beta a try if you haven't. I'm not saying it's 100% a solution or necessarily the solution for your needs, but the guest monitor quality is noticeably improves in my testing.

Last night was ok for a few hours, this morning unusable for what i needed it for. If that problem is sold they have a purchase.

david harrison We made the mistake of upgrading two of our machines to the Pro license thinking Rendezvous would be the answer to replacing Zoom.... Nope

We are brining Zoom into wirecast as a work around but more clients are jumping off Zoom. If Rendezvous would work then I wouldn't have to be investigating Vmix and OBS as well.

Justin As per david's comment please do test in our beta 13.1.2. You should see improved results in Rendezvous.

  • Justin OBS was a struggle. Was quite buggy. Decent for a Twitch streamer, 2/3 scenes. But anymore you need more, also plugins and open source is ok. But you end up on rabbit warrens of plugins and fixes that can suck your days away.

  • Simon Clarke CraigS I downloaded the beta yesterday, and still kept the old one. I was unable to do my regular two daily lilvestreams.... I kept the old one because my understanding is that the new beta does not work with Wirecast Go connections... Should I delete the regular version and just keep the beta? Do I have to delete any preferences? Any recommended workflow to get the beta to work well? Thanks, juan

We have a beta of Wirecast Go as well.

Of course the nature of betas is that there can be some issues so they may not be ready for mission critical work.

It might be best to keep documents created in either, separate from the other.

  • CraigS Simon Clarke  Juan Munoz   I did few production live with the new beta and I have to admin that Rendezvous is working much better. I always had guests coming in via browser since I cannot force them to install Wirecast GO beta via TestFlight, but all the test I did with my phone are good to go with the most recente WGO update. I still will love to see some improvement in Rendezvous (Audio, stop cross video to attendees)  and WGO (few input here as well), but.. this is the nature of customers asking always for more :). As well I think have ability to manage interaction with social in WCAST (chat mainly) will be important in future release.

  • Ermanno Bonifazi : Thanks for that feedback - really glad to hear it's working much better for you.

Regarding 'stop cross video' - do you mean adding an option to stop other peers from hearing & seeing each other (they can only communicate with the Wirecast host).

Would you mind describing in a bit more detail what you'd like to see here.

  • Simon Clarke Simon, Rendezvous use a lot of bandwidth as I'm sure you know. Sometime certain guests do not have the bandwidth to handle all the video return from the other guest and this also in general can jeopardize the result of the live show. That guest, with bandwidth constraint,  may start to "pixelated", become "green" (I had this issue few times) or freeze. I think that we cannot stop the audio of the other guests, otherwise in an interactive show will be impossible to follow the talk, but since we can send back the Live view in Rendezvous to guests (I do this all the time) he/she can follow the show and listen the audio, while disabling the video feed of the other guests saving bandwidth and using all the resources just for his/her feed: this is what I call disable "cross video". So only the "Wirecast manager" will receive all the feeds (and the guests that have enough bandwidth) and someone can have just his video and the live view (I think that this may even worth for the majority of the case, even for whom have bandwidth, at the end the goal of Rendezvous is to have a great show not a webconference app). In some special cases could also be interesting to disable "cross audio" as well, but this is not a top priority and also the amount of bandwidth saved may not worth the time of developing it. Hope I was clear.

    Hi Simon.

Just on this topic, this was requested previously indeed... to allow guests to have live to air video feed only, and not see other inputs directly. This would help from a bandwidth perspective. Audio is a little more complicated - and I understand that. But there is no reason to watch video for each guest in little boxes. That type of bandwidth load is just asking for problems.
