Wirecast Replay Playlist Transitions

This is an issue that is present in wirecast 6.0.7 and the latest 7.0.1

Transitioning between replay shots in a playlist does not work as it should. Instead it jumps back to the start of each clip briefly before jump cutting to the next one.

If a transition is applied like smooth, it acts more like a cut without any transition fade, then cuts to the next clip in the playlist.

I tried the same thing with other transitions such as ripple, and the shot doesn't cut in until after the transition effect has taken place.

I also had some issues with playback behavior when setting the play list clips to 'hold'.

I've uploaded some videos to help understand.

https://youtu.be/8Zo6Wz8YxxA - Rec 3
https://youtu.be/f-HqP_PeF0w - Rec 4

In Rec 1 and 3 I show you how I make my playlist shots up and the different transitions (or lack of) between them.
In Rec 2 and 4 I show when manually changing each replay clip behavior to 'hold' the first clip of the playlist will play, then hold, but each clip afterwards will just hold the first image. Is this intended behavior?

This user seems to have the same issue as well.

and similar issues here but I don't have any black padding on my playlist replay clips

  • Interesting. Thanks for those examples. Please fill out the form and link to this forum thread so the engineer can see your examples.

  • If possible, can you test using non Replay shots in a Playlist to see if it's specific to Replay shots?

  • Thanks CraigS,

Will fill out the support form.

I did test non replay shots, they transitioned (smooth, cut and ripple) as intended between replay shot and non replay shot. I found the jumping only occurring between consecutive replay shots.

  • Thanks for that. Please include that information in the form. That's an important bit of information.

  • hey there - I've had the same issues with a smatter of the beginning of the clip playing for about 3-4 frames before advancing on to the next clip. I had tried different codecs and it seems to do the same whether using MP4 or pro res. This issue occurs on two machines, one pretty quick mac mini the other an older macbook pro.

The only easy fix I've found is to create and insert a 'colour black' clip between each clip in the playlist. It's a pain that the minimum duration you can set for something is 1" (it would help to at least offer down to half a second) but this does fix the jumping issue.

  • Brendan Quaife the original poster was using 6.0.7 and 7.0.1. Please test with 7.1 which is the current version of Wirecast.

  • I can confirm the issue also occurs with 7.0.1  - i also saw the same with 6 and hoped the upgrade to 7 would come with a magic fix!

I have 'pro' which I purchased in order to use wire casts live features in other parts of our operations - this playlist playback glitch along with another issue I've raised with support over embedded audio via Thunderbolt/sdi eventually losing lock and dropping out makes me a bit of a disappointed customer!

  • Brendan Quaife  just making sure you're testing with 7.1 and not 7.0.1 which has been superseded.

  • yes - 7.1 on both machines - identical issues

  • Thanks for testing.

Fill out the form and link to a recorded example or link to this forum thread so the engineer can read.

  • Hey, just tested the same workflow on Wirecast 7.2.0 and the 'frame jumping while transitioning replay shots issue' is still present. Transitions act as they should on other media.

Is there a timeline on when this will get fixed?

Replays are not an option at the moment until this is rectified.

  • Stephen_N You'd have to report that it's still an issue in 7.2 using the case number you already received and request a status update.
