Videos with Alpha Channels

I know Wirecast still doesnt support custom transitions with Alpha Channels, (which I've brought up elsewhere here previously) but does Wirecast 9 support ANY form of Video with alpha channels? Need this for some custom animated lower thirds and overlays, but I suppose my next question is this: If WC9 does support videos with alpha channels, What is the WC9 preferred format/codec for those videos so I can export them correctly and have video with transparency that will actually be read correctly by WC9 and also not cause it to crash? (like it did recently when I tried to throw a Quicktime Cineform RGB+Alpha video at it.)

  • I've used ProRes with Alpha (ProRes 4444). It may support the old Quicktime Animation codec with Alpha as well.

  • Manuel Brunfman mov is a container which can contain any number of codecs.
If you link to the file I can download and analyze it.

  • CineForm support was added in Wirecast 10, which we have a public beta for now.  Please note that internally we saw that decoding CineForm is really expensive on macOS when compared to Windows, so I'd still recommend ProRes 4444 or QuickTime animation + alpha channel on macOS.
