Screenflow 8.2.2 crashes Macbook Pro (Mojave 10.14.3) while recording...

The last few times I have tried a screen recording, with video and audio, about a minute into the recording my MBP just goes black, i.e. shuts down and restarts.

Not sure what's going on...

Any ideas???

And what about "Touch Bar"? I think this is another variable we have to put on this analysis process.

When the computer reboots back to the desktop is there a popup box with any message at all?

Line any listed in this description by Apple ?

Or maybe something similar asking you to send a report to Apple?

Or does it just restart as if you simply rebooted and has no message at all after booting?

  • Guilherme de Assis Brasil Hey! I wasn't using the touch bar at all.

  • CraigS Yes - not for me. It does occur around the 2.30 min mark and only with the FaceTime Camera on.

Jeremy Kwok Thanks. So it seems no interaction is necessary beyond recording and using Facetime Camera.

Do you see any popup boxes after reboot as per my previous post?

    No.

Line any listed in this description by Apple?  No.

Or maybe something similar asking you to send a report to Apple? Unfortunately not.

    This is my case.

Guilherme de Assis Brasil Thanks for that. That there is no kernel panic or crash reporter message is certainly an important variable.

  • Hello  CraigS and all, I think I have good news. I did tons of test last weekend, and now I'm able to record long videos with different setups with no crash.

I did a combination of two Apple procedures: SMC Reset and NVRAM Reset, in this exact sequence.

Guilherme de Assis Brasil Thanks for that update. I was thinking NVRAM reset might also be necessary. Fingers crossed, let's see if it endures.

  • Update from me.

I tried a SMC Reset... and tried recording screen + camera + microphone... and crashed a few minutes in.

Then I tried SMC Reset and NVRAM Reset, in that order... and then again tried recording screen + camera + microphone... and crashed in the first minute.

I'm going to fall back to version 7 until this is fixed... unless there's something else to try.

  • Uninstalled v8 and installed v7.3.2

Tried the exact same recording as above... and crashed in first minute.

Maybe will fall back and try v6.

  • CraigS ...another update after rounds of testing. You can probably disregard my posts above, based on below.

I tested v8, v7 and v6... and they all caused crashes.

Then I noticed something. When "Record audio from" was selected as "Macbook Pro Microphone" it would crash. When selecting "External Microphone" it works.

Prior to all this, I did the SMC and NVRAM resets.

Will test a few other recording options to see if this holds true.

James Veigli There's something odd involving the hardware. I wonder if there's a test you can run using internal mic and Facetime without ScreenFlow. Perhaps try using Quicktime or PhotoBooth. Report your findings once you do all the testiing, via email with the case number we sent you, in the subject line.

Guilherme de Assis Brasil That it took some time for it to come back may mean it requires a set of circumstances that develop over time. I haven't seen other reports of it returning yet though.

Guilherme de Assis Brasil Good to hear. This seems to have been an OS based issue that was impacting ScreenFlow so it may have taken some work (more than one update) for Apple to cover all variations.

Hello bros, just to tell u I'm facing the same issue, and it works great if I deactivate Audio from my MacBook Pro.

I will test it tomorrow with an external mic, and hope it will be ok 馃憤

Yeah... it鈥檚 back for us too. We worked around it by using an external USB camera... then on the last OS update... we tried using the built in hardware and it seemed to work good for a couple months. Yesterday the crashes returned. We are back using the external camera.
